Super User FishTank Posted May 31, 2023 Super User Posted May 31, 2023 I took a day off and went to a new lake for me. It was unreal. I caught 17 smallmouth in the 12-15in range and a couple in 3+lb range, 2 largemouth, 5 sunfish, and 1 big gar. It was just fantastic. It was best day I have had this year. This big girl was around 23in and 7lbs. Most of the smallmouth I caught were this size. I also saw one crazy boat on the way there. I'm not quite sure where he was going to put it but it had 4 350hp engines on it. I can't imagine the cost. Sorry for the bad Pic but I passed it too quickly. 22 Quote
Jmurphy87 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Well I got out today and caught around 15 in a hour, no size at all really. I got one decent one probably 1.5-2lbs, not what I am looking for. But it’s the biggest one that I have pulled out so far this year. All caught on a salty super fluke in Houdini on a 2/0 owner haymaker hook. I didn’t bother with pictures since I was waste deep in muck in my swimming trunks lol, still have not bought new waders. I had a few more hits later on a ribbon tail worm, they were not eating it good enough to stick them with a hook though. They were just biting the tail lol. I finally caught some fish on a fluke so I am happy. The wife caught one also. 9 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted May 31, 2023 Super User Posted May 31, 2023 Whadda day, @FishTank! I once saw a cigarette boat on Lake Michigan with FIVE 450 hp outboards. I didn't even know that a 450 hp outboard was made. Of course, I muttered, "Someone is compensating." Then a little later, I passed the boat again and the owner was there. It was still morning, but he was exhaling a haze of booze. His bulbous, red nose looked like it had been chewed by a puppy and he was as soft as a kitten. I remembered my first thought and was sad that I was so right. 3 2 1 Quote

So much fun too fish It amazes me how even many Bass anglers don't understand the importance of keeping grass in a lake. Dude who just bought a brand new LVS 34 scope for a dedicated 25k small lake bassboat just hired a bunch of folks to get in the water and rip out a bunch of grass in front of his waterfront. Between the State DNRs and then individual property owners, my new pet peeve is people destroying grass on waterways we all share. I'd make the case that anglers contribute more to lakes than any other group. 1 Quote
Fishlegs Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 I'm late posting, but I was fortunate enough to get to tag along on a fishing trip with @roadwarrior& his friend David (sorry I didn't get his BR screen name) last week. It was a great trip. The day started with a good breakfast, and great conversation. It would've been a good day if it had ended there because I got to meet a new friend, but add beautiful weather, great water, and catching a boatload of fish to that and it became a day I won't soon forget. We started out drifting with minnows, but the drum, sauger, and catfish made us switch to artificials. I tried throwing spinnerbaits, and lipless cranks, but the only thing getting bites were soft plastics. We caught fish on several different varieties, but the Rage Menace was the champ. It didn't matter what color it was. If it was a menace it got bit. Kent caught some on a Rage Bug, and I caught a couple on a brush hog, but the menace showed out all day. Among the three of us we ended up catching 45 fish. Mostly smallmouth, a few largemouth, one spotted bass, one striper, a few white bass, catfish, sauger, and drum. If we had been fishing in a drum tournament I would've gotten a check. ??♂️ I didn't end up with many pictures because we were too busy catching fish, and grabbing the net. I'll take that any day though. Here are a few I got. The last one is one that Kent caught. I don't think it was the biggest fish of the day, but I think it was the prettiest fish of the day. A big thanks to Kent & David for letting me tag along. I hope we get to do it again soon! 18 Quote
