Yeah it's funny you say that, just this morning I was watching the new tactical bassin video and Tim was talking about how when they hit a whopper plopper, they really hit it hard. That fish was but a couple pounds but it surely blew that thing up. It's a very fun bait. 2 Quote
Micaiah Lindquist Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 The whole fam headed north from Orlando and ended up in Tennessee. After a quick run to bass pro for some gear and licenses, my brother and I hit the little pigeon river this morning to try to catch some smallmouth. A species and style of fishing entirely foreign to us Alabama boys. Neither of us had ever caught a smallmouth over about 6" long, and those were caught on live worms bream fishing on Lake Wheeler. We seemed to figure it out though, catching 6 smallmouth, 2 rock bass, and a small sucker in just a couple of hours, all on a ned rig. Biggest smallie was 14.5”. Can’t wait to head back out and catch some more in the morning! 26 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted May 4, 2023 Super User Posted May 4, 2023 Cold, breezy and drizzly morning, but I had a short window so I got out for a couple hours. Water temps have dropped to 51°(I marked water 65° over 2 weeks ago), so we’ve had a major cooling trend and it’s had the fish in a funk. I couldn’t get much going. Spinnerbait was the only thing they would sniff today. Had some short strikers as well. This has been the weirdest spring weather and fishing I’ve ever experienced. Getting up to my favorite lake tomorrow for a late morning/afternoon session that I’m very hopeful for. I’ll be looking to get back on the shallow wood jig bite. Next week has very stable spring weather so I expect the bite to get hot again like it was a couple weeks ago. 19 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted May 4, 2023 Super User Posted May 4, 2023 Surprisingly heavy cloud cover rolled in out of nowhere last night to blot out a nearly full moon, which doesn't seem to happen often enough. I'd rather stay home and belt-sand my bunions than fish under clear skies and a beaming orb. It's the worst. Rain by itself is a close second, but with the spawn so near combined with an unusually good mixture of the two, they'd have to be biting. Right? Right! I just had to go. Got a nice Crappie pronto on the Livingston Bullnose, but then black clouds crept in. Oddly, there wasn't a lick of wind when the deluge began. It just poured. Got a fat little chunk on the Shellcracker G2, then another just like her on the S-Waver 168, but by then the rain was simply unbearable. It's about time for a waterproof case for me old iPhone 6, I reckon. 22 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 4, 2023 Global Moderator Posted May 4, 2023 Slow but fun, tried spinnerbait forever to no avail. Thew a grub so I could catch something 19 Quote

They didn’t stop hitting it, they never started 3 Quote

Super User GreenPig Posted May 4, 2023 Super User Posted May 4, 2023 Two whole fish from yesterdays trip. Water temp had dropped four degrees and my girls were not in a good mood. Even with the sustained 18 mph winds and occasional 40 mph gust it was a fine day. 19 Quote

Super User T-Billy Posted May 4, 2023 Super User Posted May 4, 2023 Two weeks of cold, wind, and rain have 'em all messed up. Two weeks ago there were tons of fish shallow. Not so much now, but better weather is on the way. It was a grind this morning, with just two bites between 6:30 and 10:30. They got a little more cooperative as the day went on. Ended up with about a dozen. Couple two pounders and this 3.48 chunk. The rest were dinks. 28 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 4, 2023 Super User Posted May 4, 2023 No pics, as the three dinks I boated weren’t worth the pixels. Very slow morning. One on a jerkbait and two on a Zoom Mag 2. Lost another on the jerkbait and another on a tube. Which was happy/sad, as that was the first bass I’ve had had bite on a tube. 6 Quote
Jmurphy87 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Nothing special size wise for sure, it was a grind with not much happening really. I got to break the new combo in with a fish at least lol. The bait used was a 3/8 thunder cricket gold series with a swapped skirt to a beast coast tackle natural gill with a mini zako trailer in 956. I made a decent cast, give or take 35-40 yards it touched down and I was like something doesn’t feel right, when in doubt set the hook. I saw my line moving oddly after I swung and figured that I caught something. I didn’t have my drag all the way tight on my tatula 80 and it played around with me a little and jumped out of the water a couple times. Then it tried to run into a brush pile but I kept it out and got it to the bank and grabbed it. I was surprised that it stayed on, hook was through the soft tissue on the side of the mouth. The mbr 844c did a good job of keeping it pinned and the braid probably helped me get the hook set at that distance. Like I said when it touched down I felt the bite. Either way I am happy that I caught something at least. the pond I fished is shallow so they start bedding earlier. Probably landed close to a bed and just got a reaction strike out of this little whipper snapper lol. I really like the 30lb sunline plasma braid though, I always liked it though. 20 Quote
Super User Popular Post N Florida Mike Posted May 5, 2023 Super User Popular Post Posted May 5, 2023 Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the mouth!! First bass ! 4.06 pounds… 35 Quote
