today i went to Lake Ray 'There are just lots of spiders' and caught allergies. I took photos but you can't really even see the spiders

I made it out for 5 hours today.  I caught 11 including a fat largemouth that was 6 pounds even.  20 1/8 inches long 17 1/2 girth.  She's been eating good.   I also lost a ~2 pounder while boat flipping it.  The bill pulled out of a DT6.  I caught a couple on a chatter bait (my first chatterbait bass.)   a few on a DT6.  The 6 pounder came on a T-rig.   I also caught 1 on a Jig.   It was really windy today.  Temp was around 50 but I was cold.  Water temp is up to 52.

Beautiful morning and unseasonably warm. Almost made up for the lack of action.

 

First fish of the day... a trout on an underspin.

 

And another accidental trout!

 

Finally a bass. Pops caught one too, but it was a tad small and abruptly returned to the lake to ensure there was no photographic proof.  ?

Look at all those different lures! Jerkbait, jig, swimbait, and a green worm, but no purple worm? Next thing we know you’ll have a spinnerbait tied on. ?

@NorcalBassin I don’t know how he acts in the boat but if I had a boat and seen that face I would be like awww heck let’s go??

@NorcalBassin, I love when you post. I love your dad's joy, the fine fish you catch, and the backdrops. 90% of Maine is trees, the most of every state. Now, I understand that California has the world's greatest trees, but I also see your shorelines that aren't just tree free, but seemingly plant free. Your sky is even different than ours, a different shade of blue. It's just cool to see all the different places where we catch bass. 

 

Alex has shared a few times his surprise at the number of largemouth in Maine. I share that surprise. Maine is famous for smallmouth and trout. So, I'm in the land of spruce, cedar, white pine, and sugar maples catching bigmouths in bogs. Then there are the Great Lakes' fishers with their behemoths. And southern Florida fishers in the grass. The adaptability of bass will always amaze me. They're literally from coast to coast and bottom to top, thriving wherever they swim. 

 

P. S. - Don't forget Riggs next time.

Thank you for the kind words! Hopefully the shoreline pics will start having some more green in them as the water level continues to rise. That lake is still 140ft from full pool, but that sure beats the 200+ it was in the fall. The smaller lake below this one's dam is full or close to it nearly year round and has a lot of underwater vegetation. It's like being in two different worlds right next to each other.

 

Riggs is still a pup between the ears and a better name would have been Taz or ADHD Shredder. He's doing pretty well following commands, but not to the point of being ready to be around treble hooks. I think he should be ready for the spring though... fingers crossed!

@NorcalBassin, I follow your weather issues on the US Drought Monitor map. I check every week. I'm hoping your Sierra Nevada snow melting will be slow enough to another score or much more of lake level rise.

Dolly stays away from hooks until I tell her it's OK.  She loves to smell the fish.  She did jump in once after a Largemouth that was jumping/walking on it's tail.

In between pressure systems here. Temps rising into the low 50s today, but clear blue skies, no wind, and clearing waters. Fished right through them today on the first pass, just getting one dink, so bumped up the jig head weight and slowed down, and that did the trick. Quickly picked up a bunch more after that from the same spots, ending with a dozen. Extended forecast still looks pretty promising through next weekend

No big ones, but I managed to catch 8 in 4 hours.

Went out this past Sunday with the plan to fish the power plant lake as long as the wind and boats would let me, then go to a smaller lake to get out of the wind. The wind didn't let me stay long and the fish weren't cooperating anyways, so around 9:30, I was already on the move. My buddy was already fishing the lake I'd planned to go to, and he said it was really slow, so I drove to a different lake I hadn't fished in a few years. Very small lake, no shad, mostly very small fish but I've caught a few big ones. Really just wanted to get a few fish and avoid the wind. Started on the dam and caught 10 or so pretty quick on a jerkbait and Ned, they were all copy and paste of this.

For some reason, once I left the dam the bite stopped completely. Unfortunate considering the dam is pretty small. Once I got to the far end of the lake, the water got a little dirtier and a few degrees warmer. It's only a couple feet deep, but there's some laydowns and I had a jig I'd tied a couple weeks ago tied on, so I flipped some trees. Didn't expect anything but after a few flips I had a very distinct "tap". I finally got to slam the rod back into a decent fish and catch one on my new jig. 

Caught a couple more small ones on the jig from that shallow water. Made one more lap with a few different baits but only caught a few more small ones and one decent one on a Ned.
