Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 @Bluebasser86, I don't often get jealous of other fishers' lakes because I love the water I fish, but your lake turns me bright green. Thanks for the video, but the weather in the video confuses me. Were you fishing in a howling fog? If so, I have never experienced that. I've been T-boned by squall lines and lived through a tornado that sunk every boat but mine, but I've never seen howling fog, if that's what you experienced. Quote

I've been T-boned by squall lines and lived through a tornado that sunk every boat but mine, but I've never seen howling fog, if that's what you experienced. It's a powerplant lake, water was in the low to mid 50's, air temps were in the teens, that's steam blowing and immediately freezing to anything it touches. My fishing line looked like white ropes on my rods not in use because of the steam frozen to the line. On the one selfie picture that looks like snow in the background, that's actually steam frozen to the ground and bushes. It will also soak people who don't dress appropriately when it sticks to their clothes, freezes, then melts. 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 @Bluebasser86 Whoa! You earn every fish you catch times ten. And you make the rest of us look like sissy-foo-foos. I feel like I should sacrifice a chicken to you, oh God of Iced Lines. However, I think you'll like this better than a chicken: 1 4 Quote

Non fisherman I've found love watching fisherman catch fish. Fascinates them the same way it did us in the beginning, the separator is patience.....the vast majority of humans don't have the patience capacity to be anglers. Thanks ? and yeah the cheers from the crowd is a plus. Also love it when they ask to take a picture of the fish. 2 Quote

Half the stuff I learn about the man, I absolutely love, the other half I absolutely hate. Very complicated man. The Old Man and the Sea is certainly the best long form story I've read, and To Build a Fire by Jack London is the best short story I've read. Both are so vivid you really do feel like you are there. Gotta throw Moby Dick and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in there as well ? Luckeeeeee ? This post was here for 16 hours without me seeing it, shame on me. Beautiful fat fish! Love seeing that. That Channel is really cool, can't remember seeing red on the ones I catch. Totally love " To Build a Fire"! Also like lots of his short stories such as "The Oyster Pirates". He has lot's of interesting short stories, as well as Mark Twain. His Puddin'head Wilson is one I would recommend. Robert Ruark's "The Old Man and the Boy", is classic as well! All about fishin'! 1 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 Got several in one of my work route ponds on the watermelon red super fluke. It was 84 here today. Definitely will have some bedding fish if it holds up for the full moon next week…? 19 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted January 31, 2023 Super User Posted January 31, 2023 Day after a big rain that had the lake up several feet and viz reduced significantly. The A-Rig is easily the most exciting bait I've fished to date, caught about 15 fish today, however I moved around so much trying to find big fish which I never could find. Everything today was in that 1-2lb range, however I still managed to squeel like a pig in mud when I managed to get a 5 fish limit on 2 casts, including my first threefer, or whatever it's called. Big Crappie as well. Fun day, but hopefully tomorrow big girls return. 19 1 Quote

First few months of throwing these oversized Spinnerbaits I couldn't understand why they were banned in many tournaments, then the double ups and now 5 fish on 2 cast happen and I'm like yeah maybe there is a reason for that ? It has taught me some really interesting things about Bass behavior, on that triple up, they were all cleanly hooked in the lip albeit the little guy had it in the thick part.......meaning these fish can hunt so closely and precisely together that in water with viz of about 12-18" they can pinpoint and all eat a bait. Never realized just how closely some Spotted Bass and LGM hunted together. I've caught them separately in the same areas, but until the double ups I never knew they would "team up". It really is a wild bait to fish with. Lots of big drawbacks, but excitement and uniqueness aren't ones. 44 minutes ago, ol'crickety said: Alex, you are most excellent at living. Yeah I was living a little too giddy on the threefer.....I cringe and laugh when I watched these catches ? 3 Quote

I've caught a lot of fish on an A rig, and a lot of doubles, but I've never caught a double on an A-rig, let alone a triple, that's pretty crazy. I've heard they're changing the law here from 2 hooks on the rig, to the full 5 this year, so hopefully I'll be able to change that before too long. 2 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 31, 2023 Super User Posted January 31, 2023 I stand corrected. Seems those hooks on the top baits come in handy when the schooling fish are eating them. Way to go Alex. Maybe I'll manage triple snails next spring if I'm lucky. ? 3 3 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted February 1, 2023 Super User Posted February 1, 2023 Some know exactly what I'm talking about, but if your fishery has a ridiculous amount of bait, especially Shad that range in size quite significantly, even more so if you have both Threadfins and Gizzards.....there are days when you reach headache levels of frustration with super active fish that simply won't bite a lure seemingly due to how key'd in they are for a very specific, very abundant looking bait. Other days seemingly the same electric feeding activity conditions exist, and you can get 50+ fish. On a 30-40acre section of lake I must have watched hundreds and hundreds of Bass ranging in size from half pound fish to ones that sure looked to be in the 5-6lb range easy. I fished for about 6 hours, but for 5 hours I watched all these fish around me, and only managed to catch maybe 10. I'm not sure if I'd rather just catch 1 or 2 fish and see zero feeding activity or catch 10 and seeing so many Bass feeding that you could easier net than catch. Just another day where I feel lost and stupid out there, however there is no doubt that is why I get such an enormous "high" from Bassin. I often wonder if once you get "good" at this sport if the "high/rush/adrenaline dump" starts to diminish. Two quality LGMs on the flashback mini, one in the 3.5-4lb range, and one solidly in the 3lb range. Couple quality Spots, but my Mother would have caught more than me on a day when fish were so active. First hour after getting home......"I'm just not going tom.,". Me currently "it's going to rain bad on Thursday and you won't be able to fish, you gotta go tom." ? 13 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 1, 2023 Super User Posted February 1, 2023 Alex, those three-bass-on-a-cast and 50-fish days have spoiled you. I know, I know. I telling you the same thing you told me at the end of the fall when I'd go out and only catch ten fish, but it's true. You caught some beautiful fish today. Look at those two largies. They're built like offensive lineman! And your spot is built like a wide receiver. You're catching a football team that could rumble with the Eagles or Chiefs! 1 Quote

You're the Chicken Soup for my soul Katie, and I remember telling you that. There is a reason why I have a term called "Katie numbers", and I can count on one hand the times I've thought I've gotten into that range. I still say you are more spoiled by the ridiculous amounts of dark Maine beauties you catch, your fish were winter fat in the summer and fall too ? 1 1 Quote
