After a great morning goose hunt, I opted to have a coffee instead of a nap and get my butt out fishing in the gorgeous fall weather.  My goal was to learn something new - I had my first ever bag of flukes (Strike King KVD Caffeine Shad) and was determined to add another technique to my toolbox.  It was a bit windy, so I decided to hit a small lake that has good numbers.  I could call this place Dink Lake, because I’ve fished it several times and never beat maybe 2#, with most less than 1#. But, I’ve never got skunked there and with the goal being to learn how to fish a fluke I wanted the best odds of some success.  I rigged up with a 5/0 EWG Superline hook with  40# braid on a 7’ MH/f BassX rod.  With nothing to go on except my YouTube diploma, I was happy when one engulfed my bait on my second cast.  I went on to catch about a dozen and feel I’m ready to go after bigger fish, now that I have some confidence in how to fish this bait.  I ended up preferring a Mustad KVD Grip pin 5/0 hook.

Water temps showed 64-65 degrees.  I’m in SE Ontario, Canada.

I had a ton of fun - and slept like a log last night.  Worn out from a great day. ?

You're so sweet and supportive Katie, really appreciate the kind words buddy :)

It's gonna feel so great though when you back out on the water, but I know you're going crazy.....you'd fish everyday if you could.

Hopefully it will turn around just in time to get some nice ones before the winter.  You still got time :)

Awesome fish, and thank you for your service!      Congrats on your daughter's upcoming wedding, I guess the bait monkey can't scream as loudly when you got to pay for a wedding ?

The Bait Monkey works solo with encouragement from fellow anglers. He quails in fear at the mere mention of the Wedding Monkey! ?

Friday at the dam wife caught a tiny smallie on a ballhead jig with a blue and white gulp minnow. As the little fish was getting reeled in a pike latched onto it so she got a 2 for 1.

The pike and muskey are very aggressive at the dam.

Last week the big girls attacked our stringer of walleye getting their teeth into a walleye.

Wife grabbed the stringer and pulled it up with the muskie hanging on thrashing its tail and then finally wife got the stringer in minus muskey.

Dont mess with the wifes walleye.

This friday a big muskie was hanging out 8 feet in front of her most of the day watching the stringer of walleye and chasing her fish she was reeling in.

It really sucks having to miss 2 weeks of fishing, but that's life, and with wind and clouds in the forecast I just had to go even though I was dead tired. Might've hit the snooze button once or thrice, but I shook off the leaden feeling and hit the road.

Got going quickly when a cannibal yellow perch ate my yellow perch wake/crank. The cooler water had the pickerel on a rampage, and they were determined to steal my Jackhammer, but I stayed lucky. I was able to unhook them all without touching them, thankfully. I wasn't in the mood to get slimed.

Then the skies parted, the wind died down, the sun came out strong, and the bite went bye-bye. Over the next hour I only managed to nab one small greenie on a Jackhammer, but then the clouds returned in force with even more wind than earlier. It was a short-strike-athon for a while throwing my usual plastics, but I got things going again bombing the Livingston Bullnose straight into the wind. Thank you Zillion SV. Got one small guy, then nabbed a solid chunk that fought like crazy and nearly ran me into the pads. Trebles and pads are bad news even with heavier braid, but I only had 15lb Tatsu on this rig. I avoided that test, and was happy to get him in. Good times, and no skunk. I'll take it.

Been swamped. Too tired lately for vampire fishing, but have no fear, I'll be back at it soon. Believe me, this daylight fishing jazz simply doesn't give me the same spark, and I feel lost without bats buzzing about my head.

Haha, I would have to agree with you.    Sadly peak night fishing season is over down here for me.   About July it peaks, and it's much easier for me to find bigger quality fish holding in the deeper parts of a lake, especially by dams.

I can't tell you the number of times I set the hook on a Bat hitting the line ?

Fall fishing is here. Air temps in the mid 40’s when I arrived at my spot. I have been fishing a Senko rigged weightless a lot this year. It didn’t disappoint me this morning on the river. Caught a 19” Smallmouth Bass weighing in at 3 pounds.

The night bite rules here year 'round. It's the nature of our lakes. I'm convinced the bass here, especially the bigs, are spooky due to how close we are to the salt. Big fishing birds come from the salt bays to pound our shallow spots here during the day. It's common to catch a bass here with beak scars from Ospreys, Hawks, Cormorants, etc. They were the lucky ones. The birds win a lot. Besides that, the daytime fishing pressure is nuts. This morning the red army bucket brigade occupied an entire shoreline. I wade, so I was able to go where they couldn't. They like their lawn chairs.

First club tourney of the year. Air temps dropped from the 90s to 60s overnight which had the fish a little stunned. Shad were dying off like crazy so no need for the smallies to chase our baits. Still managed to get 2nd which I won’t complain about given how the day went. Lost a 4-5lber early on a plopper which would have won it easily. Can’t complain though, it’s better than school. Next one is an MLF event on the Ozarks. Should be a good one!

I caught 10 today including a 19 inch long Largemouth.   @AlabamaSpothunter would be mad if I posted a picture of it instead of the FAT 17 inch Spot.   This particular spot jumped several times.  Around here spots usually just pull like a tug boat, but don't jump.

I went out on the kayak today, and I got this 2.33 pounder and 4 more bass! The clouds really helped out the bite today!

Got in a little Sunday night kayak tournament last night. 3 fish limit, only a few other guys fishing it on a notorious dink factory. I got the win and big bass with a whopping 16" big bass and 45.5" inches. It was a fun night, buzzbait and bladed jig was all they'd bite.

Decided to go out to the pond today around noon and try out the new 3.5” Rattlin Rapala in Shad I recently got. Rattlin Rapala  The day couldn’t have been better with bluebird skies, a nice breeze with some gusts occasionally and temps in the mid-70s. 3rd cast by the pier and caught this 4 pound pig with an attitude. ? This pond continues to surprise me with some large, quality fish. Even spotted some Carp up around the shallows that I never knew were there.

No measurement.  She was a good size— I’m thinking in the 5 pound range.  All 4 I caught this evening were chunky.

Way to go friend, really nice fish!

Had the same conditions except it was gusting up to 15mph today.....little whitecaps on my lake.   I knew it was going to be a banger of a bite though with this upcoming low pressure coming from Hurricane Ian.

I expect this to continue until Friday at least, maybe even into Saturday.    Tomorrow is going to be the same just with more wind I think.

I couldn't catch the quality LGM I thought I was going to given how good the bite was, but I can't complain with a raw thumb day using a Crankbait, and this little Chatterback Flashback.

Only used two setups, threw the Jackall Crankbait around points and flats, and then fished the Flashback with the 3" Armor Shad offshore around isolated large pods of shads.   The Flashback with the 3" Armor Shad is a deadly looking bait, and really turns the bait into a dedicated Bass lure.

Guess a bird got a hold of one of these chunky Spots, hopefully it makes it.    Second pic was my biggest, a 2.2 Spot.

@sdw215  hope you get a chance to go fishing today, look at the super dynamic conditions.....my bet is it's either lockjaw, or epic moving bait action.

My lake temps have dropped 7 degrees in 3days, the outside hi/low temps have dramatically dropped by 20-30 degrees.   Last week this time it was 94 with a felt temp of 97.....today it is 74 with a rare Alabama red flag alert.

Fall is no doubt here, and with these dynamic conditions coming from Ian, I think fishing is about to get really good again.

Alex, it's fall in Maine, which made for some pretty fishing this morning. It was also pretty tough fishing. I fished the shallowest of my bogs and it was even shallower, which puzzles me, as it's been raining steadily. I had to search for water where I could cast. A stretch might look open, but then there'd be weeds half an inch below the surface. There were also stretches with leaves floating on the water, which I liked.

I caught 29 fish, two pickerel and 27 bass, but nothing big. I did have one nicer fish single hooked by the canoe, but it unbuttoned. Earlier in the summer, I lost a Whopper Plopper to a poorly tied knot. That fish kindly returned it. It happened again this morning (Dumb to not check my knot, huh?), so I waited for the bass to return it and it did (Smart to be patient, huh?), coming out of the water and shaking it free. T-Billy (Tim) once called me a "hammer." This morning, I was a tack hammer.

Some fall color followed by a perfect hornets' nest in the rain followed by a few fish:
