I continue to stack dinks, nothing of size out here right now. Water's still consistently 80 degrees in most shallows by 9:30a. But on a cloudy day, or before then...it's game on. Did 15 black bass about this size on a sungill ned rig between 7:30am and 9:10am. Five of which came in the first 10-15 minutes on consecutive casts. I'm having fun, but looking forward to bigger fish.

For real though, Ray Roberts makes some really pretty bass. I've caught some up to 5lbs with this kind of marking. Great fishing lake once you find something they like.

Had to miss the past week, but by last night I was ready to go. Too bad there was a gargantuan full moon hovering over the lake and not a whisper of wind or a cloud in the sky. I took a hard pass and decided to hit it nice and early just as the moon dipped below the western tree line. My timing was right.

Got things going with a crappie on a wake, then hooked a charged up little scrapper. Followed up with a nice one, then a few more scrappers after the sun rose. Called it a win and even made it home in time for breakfast with the wife.

The water's cooled down a bit, and they all fought hard for their size. I usually get spanked on full moon days, but the bassin' gods gave me a break today. No whoppers, but not bad for a quick morning sesh. I'll take it.

d**n it feels good to set hook and the fish set it back. I’ve been finesse fishing for too long, I guess. This type of satisfactory is why everyone love jig fishing.

I think you're confusing a jig for catching hawgs ?

Catching fish that size on my Steez setup makes me smile ear to ear for about an hour or two.

I caught 23 today in the rain.  12 Spots and 11 Largemouth.   Flatside cranks, spinner baits and texas rigs.  This 3 pound 15 ounce Spot jumped over a lay down to get a motoroil colored worm.   I attempted to cast right beside the tree trunk but the wind blew my line across it.   I crawled the worm over the trunk back into the water.  This spot jumped over the trunk following the worm.   Pretty much every one of them hit after the bait had bounces off of wood.

The next best thing to fishing is not fishing and seeing the fish that others are catching!

I've only seen that once . A bass jumped over a log to hit the buzzbait on the other side . Unlike you , I didnt catch the fish .

Managed to catch a couple this morning on the ultra-lite setup again. First was a 3.5lb scrapper caught on a wacky-rigged worm in blue/black. The next was a dink who had illusions of grandeur thinking it was gonna swallow a craw right off. ? Weather was nice with temps in the upper 70s and a nice breeze.

Your friendly neighborhood dinkmaster.

Different neighborhood, different dinks. Maybe we can franchise.

Lost two more, but it was a good time for a short session with a stickworm and a spinning rod.

Extremely dynamic weather the last week.....like going from 30.10 to 29.73 over a 24hr period, and back up, and back down.  I'm having lots of difficulty finding numbers of fish, but I continue to get lucky with the quality fish.

Fished for 3 hours today, from 330-630pm.   Very overcast day that ended with a pretty sunset and moderate cloud cover.     Still quite hot, but my lake's avg. temp seems to have fallen about 4-5 degrees in the last week.

Caught 6 including an exceptionally healthy 5lb 14oz fish.  Super feisty for a LGM this time of year as well.   So close to being a 6lber.  Next nicest was b/t 1-2lbs.     The 4 others were small Spots.     The 7" Black Grape Roboworm on a 1/8th Tungsten/ Gama EWG 3/0 T-Rig took the big girl along with the other LGM, and two of the Spots.   Another Spot came on a Chatterbait, and one came on a Scrounger Head with Magic Shad being trolled in-between spots.

Oh yeah, check out the huge Gizzard Shad I found that was about to die.....looks like a bird or something got it.     This lake doesn't have lots of Gizzards, and this is easily the biggest one I've ever seen.    I imagine a big Bass would hammer it.   It was about 8" for reference.   Last pic is a threadfin pod holding right above the main lake channel that almost filled my 9" screen......I mean if I were a Bass I'd never eat anything but those things.   Oddly it seems I only catch 1-2lb fish around these huge bait balls.

Thanks friend!

I was ecstatic with how healthy and fat she was....no marks or sores either.    These are the fish that give me great optimism one of these days I'll get a DD on my home lake.

One last funny story from today and a word of caution to anglers and honeyholes......

So I see this guy fishing in terrible conditions last week in a very odd location of the lake, go to the store, come back an hour later.....the guy was still there fishing in the rain in the exact same spot.

Flash forward to today, I'm fishing that part of the lake so I decide to really give that area a good screening with the sonar.     Lo and behold this dude was fishing on perhaps the most sheer vertical dropoff in the lake, and on a ledge is a huge structure ball with what I can only guess was tons of Crappie holding all around it.

Now if I knew a single thing about Crappie, I'd have just scored one heck of a honey hole lol.   I've had other anglers approach me in the past because they saw an exposed net, and asked " See ya got the net out, how nice was she".     If you hold your honeyholes near and dear, remember there is always a fellow angler trying to scoop you including myself LMAO ?

I fished some ponds yesterday and it was a total dinkfest. This was the big one of the day I caught using a plastic worm.

Maybe we should have a thread for “Best Dinks” or something like that. ? I’m sure we all would have  plenty of offerings. I know I would.

You are so right about loose lips sinking the best bass trips. When I was young, my brothers and I pedaled to farm ponds and over the years, we saw some fine ponds reduced to Dink Towns by gluttons.

What's your first name, Mr. SpotHunter? I'm Katie.
