Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 4, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 4, 2022 Got out a couple times this weekend. Once was at a local lake and second time was a heavily wooded lake down south a little ways. Did a good job avoiding the crowds and caught fish along the way, can't complain. Biggest bass of the weekend was a 5 on a 5" Mister Twister Poc-it Phenom worm. Saw a couple little spotted fawns when I blew up against the bank at the lake on Sunday. Sunday I saved a couple hours at the end of the day to catch a couple catfish for my partner at work. I actually had a hard time catching small enough ones to keep. I wanted fish between 2-5 pounds. Caught 3 in the teens, one was pushing 20, all channel cats. This was one of the smaller ones that was still bigger than I wanted to keep for him. Only got one in that optimal range. 25 Quote
The Baron Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 Got on the water over the Canada Day weekend - an early morning outing with my son, then a solo evening (son was swimming with friends) and a solo morning (son sleeping like a log and I didn’t want to wake him. lol). My son was excited to try some Googan baits, so I bought a pack of Trench Hawgs and a pack of Bandito Bugs. We Texas rigged them and he was able to land a fish on both, although the morning was slow. I was able to pick one up on a Berkley Digger, just off a dock on a rocky bottom. My evening outing resulted in only two decent bites on a YoZuri 3DB Pencil - the first was a maybe 2#-ish smallmouth that jumped and got off, then a better largemouth as the evening faded. My first fish of the next morning was a good one on a weed less wacky-rigged Gary Yamamoto senko. I caught a few small ones after that, then had to head in as it was my turn to make breakfast for a cottage full of people. That was about it for fishing - hard to just disappear all weekend when you’re a guest.? Looking back, almost all our fish came off areas with rocky bottom and weeds in 4-8ft. of water. We tried frogging, flipping shallow weed edges and fishing deeper with dropshot, with almost no luck. 21 Quote
ironbjorn Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Another good one this morning, again on a 3/8 oz Strike King Banshee Spinnerbait, but this time in White. Caught along an overhanging bush. This sucker tore the willow blade off. 16 Quote
boostr Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Finally took the boat out on Sunday with the fam. Dialed in all the new electronics, and they worked cause I saw some blips in 20 fow (hoping for large mouths) but came up with this chonk on a Berkley Dredger. Rest of the day was just catching dinks, but a good day none the less. 19 Quote

Jmurphy87 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Decided to post some pictures from the weekend. small bass didn’t weigh it this came on a wacky rig that my wife said was not working lol, first cast I made caught this one. I caught a few Little Rock bass and a small pike and a smaller bass on a Zara puppy. That takes care of Saturday. I got out Sunday for a hour and a half, decided wacky rig would be the move again. First cast throwing a black senko get a hit was not expecting it set the hook fight it for a second or two and it comes off ☹️ Although I did get to see some of the bigger bass in the area expose themselves, worth it. The senko flopped over the hook upon hook set is why I didn’t catch the first one. I threw the black senko wacky rig back towards one of the larger bass that I saw earlier, took one look and swam off lazily. I know what this means, time to change color of baits, water’s fairly clear. So I wacky rig a z man zinker in bass color, throw this back towards a bigger one again. The bass looks interested gets closer so I twitch it, wham watch him eat it. Set the hook bring him in, not huge but still decent 2.80lbs, then it’s pandemonium back to back cast and catches one right after another. Fish probably from 12 - 14 inches being conservative. Then as I am getting ready to leave I catch a angry 1.72lb bass that wants to hook me. I am wading in the water with shorts on runs between my legs and I know this is not good feel the fish and the the hook to my ankle yay. I keep the fish under control the best I can get slack in my line and just pull it out. I enjoyed the day of fishing and had fun. 16 Quote
ironbjorn Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 It started raining so I did the thing only logical to bass fishermen and grabbed a spinnerbait and hit the pond for 45 minutes or so. Caught 4, the best is pictured. There's been something really special about this one 20 yard stretch of bank on this 6 acre pond over the past week. 12 Quote

The Baron Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 (edited) Got out in the canoe this evening with a buddy. It was calm so I fished a frog over 3-6ft. of water with coontail and some small pad patches for probably close to an hour, with no takers. I was thinking I’d try a buzz bait, but the rod I was going to use for that had a TR black/blue Bandito Bug tied on and I felt too lazy to change it right away. First cast toward a bit deeper water (8-10ft) and boom, about a 3# whacked it on the fall. Very next cast I got about a 2#. Few casts later a 1.5# or so, then a while later another 2# or so. Heck of a good time and I’m suddenly a big fan of beaver baits.? Edited July 8, 2022 by The Baron 13 Quote

Mbirdsley Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 After work Friday bass!!!!. Punched out of work at 6 am. After eating breakfast I was the first one on the water at 7:15am. Not giving the lakes name as it’s very small and located near Lansing in Clinton county MI. This has been a secret of mine for 4-5 years now. The state game area that surrounds the lake is named after it. It’s almost 10 minutes due west of sleepy hollow/lake Ovid. Take the same exit off 127 for some reason these fish absolutely crush a 6 inch black and blue flake ocho t-rigged with a 1/4 oz weight. All I do is cast or flip into outskirts or pockets in the pads that ring the lake. first fish came on a baby bass fluke. I’m hoping this fluke is another piece of the puzzle on this lake. It’s either I knock them dead or nothing. However, the fish are always cruising and crushing minnows on the surface. Whether I’m catching fish or not. last fish came on a 5 inch savage gear boot tail black crappie swim bait with 5/0 beast hook. So first panfish boot tail catch. Also, on rainshadow blank that I built. 16 Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Managed a few hours on the kayak this morning before the heat really set in. I only managed a 15"er but its score able for the two tourneys Im in. I missed it on an OG Chatterbait in white and chartreuse with a Tennessee Shad colored Havoc Grass Pig Jr trailer. I immediately swapped rods and followed up with a 5" wacky rigged Yum Dinger in Morning Dawn. He hit it after I twitched the rod a few times after the fall, he was in about 3.5' of water. 15 Quote
The Baron Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 I couldn’t find a partner, so did a solo canoe outing to a small back lake this morning. The lake delivered exactly what I expected - good numbers of small fish. I caught almost 40 fish, with maybe 2 of them over a pound. I started with a popper, then a frog (I was surprised how shallow I caught some), a small spook and finally a wacky rigged senko. All were fun, but the senko was the winner - I caught over a dozen in the last 20 minutes before deciding I’d had enough. Pic below is actually one of the bigger ones.? 20 Quote

Jmurphy87 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 I caught a few today at a pond that I fish in parchment, MI that’s been overrun with pike I caught 5 or so small bass. I caught at least 10 pike, at the pond caught them on a lipless crank and a strike king lil mister money spinner bait. Then I went to spring valley just across the road from my apartment and caught this 1.78lb bass on a lipless ripping grass with it. I would say today was a success. 18 Quote
Cbump Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Wednesday 6/29 (last time I’ve been out) took the kids to Possum kingdom. Caught 10 in a few hours I think. All on Weightless senko in submerged trees in 15’ water. The kids each lost one. Sorry, I don’t know why my pictures are so grainy in here. They are fine on my phone. 19 Quote
throttleplate Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Friday wife and i went to a another dam in Fergus Falls Minn area. First time we fished it and i spent 8 hours in hip waders today walking the flooded shoreline, crawling over rocks and downed trees looking for eddies. We caught smallmouth and pike which i am just wore out with as they bit me off today 3 times and the wife twice. Snagged a huge carp in the tail meat area and fought him like a giant tuna and got him into shore. I couldnt pick him up as i was standing on big rocks and couldnt bend down. It was hot out and we got home at midnite. Today i never opened the door of the house to look outside and after stretching in the morning i just laid down all day sleeping on and off. 23 Quote
