They usually don’t get right up on surface until the sun is hot so we tried out in the main channel for bass/striper for a bit. We could see skipjack jumping all around but couldn’t catch them. I had 5 live shiners that I had caught off my dock. I tossed one near some deep rip rap and hooked something big on my light spinning combo. I thought for sure it was a giant drum of catfish as hard as it was pulling. Then I saw a big ole spotted bass bulldogging under the boat. Got him in (with lots of backreel) and it was a fat 19” fish. Upon further photo review, I think maybe it was a meanmouth. What do y’all think? So then we go hit the gar spot around 9:30 or 10 am and they are already surfacing everywhere. I caught one small one and we broke for lunch After lunch my buddy finally scores on a 45” gar on a fly. then a few minutes later he is telling me a story and sets the hook, I can see the fly rod surging, another gar a little smaller but it’s fighting like crazy then I got a nice crappie with live shiner to end the day Pretty big mouth and a bit stubby, I'd say it's a Meanmouth. 1 Quote

Dark, prefront, some wind, bats flying, swarms of bugs, and the fish were biting. I got a few smalls, my buddy got a 4lb and a 2lb, then I landed a 5.1lber on a Project Z Weedless chatter rigged with a trailer I found on a path that someone tossed there. A dab of Mend-it and it was good to go. They liked it, so thank you whoever you are?. Right after I caught my chunk some guy who lives nearby decided to practice for 4th of July at 11:45 pm on a Sunday night and lit off some enormous pro grade mortars that popped right over the lake. Giant explosions that shook the ground, and a light show. We knew better, but tried for a bit afterwards anyway, but the bite was gone. Great while it lasted, and it was nice to feel some weight again. Wading is fun, my favorite way to fish. It looks like you are wearing frogg togg hip waders? Dont be like me or maybe you have where i put on my hip waders instead of my chest waders and then forget what i am wearing and step in to deep and fill them up. Quote

Did that when I first got 'em. Low 40 degree water and freezing out. Had a long walk sloshing back to the truck through the woods, a creek, then some more woods. By then water wicked up to my works. Awesome. Needed to strip my jeans, socks, and underoos while parked on a side street. It was night, so I didn't frighten anyone or get jailed. Ended up driving home shivering, shriveled, and bottomless. Thankfully I caught them good beforehand. Learned my lesson. 1 3 Quote

A lot of smaller lakes in Kansas and Missouri are high density but low numbers of big fish. I fish a lot of the lakes where Ned tries for his 101 bass in 4 hours and occasionally reaches that goal. Of those 101 bass though, less than 10 will go 15" and rarely does one reach past 20". Only got out Sunday this past weekend, and got rained and stormed on in the morning like they didn't say anything about. Fishing was good right away once the lightning stopped. My blue bladed jig and a Trashmaster Jig did most of the damage. Biggest fish was a couple drops of water shy of 5lbs. 22 Quote
EWREX Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 Solid finish 24th out of 120 on the co-angler side this past week at the BASS Nation Regional Championship up on the St. Lawrence River. Tough derby for non boaters as it was a bed fishing extravaganza, but I ended up having a great first two days. Was sitting in 12th place going into day 3 but ended up slipping down to 24th as I was at the helm of my boater and scrounged up what I could. 4 fish limit for boaters and 3 fish limit for co-anglers. Fan casting a spybait, keitech, hair jig, and jerkbait were the keys to getting bites for me. Day 1: 3 fish limit - 11lb. 3oz. Day 2: 3 fish limit - 12lb. 1oz. Day 3: 3 fish limit - 8lb. 1 oz. 21 Quote
The Bassman Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 Lack of wind moved me away from reaction baits that had been so successful the past few days. Wacky rig kept me busy enough, though with these being the best of the bunch. 18 Quote
ironbjorn Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 The last week of May and the first week of June was killer. Then the bite went to hell until today. Landed 6 on a Fluke in about an hour. I'd sworn off buying the Zoom Fluke because of trash packaging and half always being warped, twisted up garbage, but happened upon a few packs in excellent condition. Best bass of the day is pictured. I only caught them under overhanging trees and bushes, and always on the initial jerk. 15 Quote

thediscochef Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 It's been really slow lately - I spent 9 hours at Possum Kingdom yesterday and got skunked. Today I tied my best bass of the year with a 5.8 at Ray Roberts. I also caught maybe the smallest fish of the year. I would have stayed later but I like to end on a high note. 18 Quote

Mbirdsley Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 Fished the titabawassee river today. Caught 5 a mix of smallies and large mouth. Actually my first smallies I’ve caught on the titabawassee since the dam failures 2 years ago. First one came on a 2.5 KVD sexy shad chrome square bill. The rest came on a the arkie jig that I pour/make. Black and blue flake head with black and blue fire tip skirt. Used a black and blue strike king rage menace. Looking like I wont be back out untill this time next week. 12 Quote
hokiehunter373 Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 Got out last night and started with the S-Waver. First cast and a fish hit it pretty quick. Of course I was hoping it was something big but it turned out to just be about a 1.5# fish. Oh well, first fish on that lure, so that was fun, and it gave me high hopes for the evening. However, I tossed that around a little longer with no luck. Switched to the drop shot and caught a dink and then no luck. Switched to a TRigged 10" power worm and started getting bites but everything was short striking or I wasn't letting it sit long enough. I'm always worried about gut hooking fish and I'd prefer to miss one then have that happen. Eventually I caught one. A really solid and thick upper 2s fish. Was real happy with that for how the night was going until I realized he was of course gut hooked. For the life of me I couldn't get that hook out so I cut it as low as I could and let him go. He swam off strong but we'll see. Picked up one more smaller fish on the power worm and that was it for the night. Luckily I saw a boat load of deer which was the pick-me-up of the evening. Had this little buck show up across the pond from me to get a drink. The powers that be might be trying to tell me it's time to get ready for September. 14 Quote
thediscochef Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Went pondhopping yesterday with a buddy and then to the Elm Fork of the Trinity below Ray Roberts. Two 1.5lb ish bass early on the banks of a lesser fished city pond, my biggest two at that pond of the 6 or 7 times I've fished it. Pictures below are those two. After that there was a dink, then nothing till the river. Got a bluegill, a small drum, and a decent longnose gar all on the chatterbait micro. Not a day to write home about but any day catching is a good day. Got skunked tonight at the state park but sometimes that happens. I at least got to go. 11 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted July 1, 2022 Super User Posted July 1, 2022 Finally got a chance to try out these new to me EWG bullet Nedlockz. I buried the hook's point deeper into the ElaZtech than I would've liked to, but they had no problem getting the hook anyway, and I didn't lose one casting them straight into the lily pads and junk then fishing them through. Pretty cool. I don't hate the Ned rig anymore. 12 Quote
The Baron Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 I got down to CT last weekend and a friend invited me to a private pond (about 15 acres). I had a really good frog bite for the first couple hours of the morning, getting bit on every 2-3 cast for quite a while. But, most fish were small and I was in a canoe so missed more than I hooked. That made me lazy when I finally got one about 3# right to the boat without insuring my hook set. He spit the frog just as I was reaching for his lip, so there’s no proof I saw any over a pound. lol. Once the frog bite slowed, I switched to a TR 6" worm with plenty of bites. After hearing my host say they've caught fish up to about 7# here, I up-sized to a 10" Power Worm on a 4/0 EWG with 1/4oz weight. First time I’d ever fished a worm that big and I was surprised (and disappointed - lol) how small a fish I could catch on it. After catching at least 50 fish and missing more than that in 4-5 hours, my buddy said the fishing was very slow that day - my thumb tells a different story. ? 19 Quote
Sphynx Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Got two this morning, been a very cold spring and I am not entirely convinced that these fish have even finished (or started in some cases) spawning yet, hopefully that means a longer good weather period on the back end of the year! 14 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted July 1, 2022 Super User Posted July 1, 2022 I had the top of a outgoing tide and almost dead calm conditions to start the morning. I eventually whittled down my topwater offerings to throwing a popper, picking up a few 1-2.5 lbs fish as the morning progressed. I was starting to think where I might go next as I finished up the stretch of bank with a few more casts with the popper. Outta nowhere the water erupted and a big green fish came out of the water and crashed down on my popper leaving a huge swirl in its wake. A second or two later my rod loaded and the fight was on, a couple of drag stripping runs that redirected the boat and I was eventually able to get her in the net. She weighed a healthy 6.56 lbs and was released after a memorable battle. 20 Quote

Super User Popular Post Choporoz Posted July 2, 2022 Super User Popular Post Posted July 2, 2022 Morning started slow. Went over an hour without a bite fishing outside weedlines and steep drops. Got into a big cove with lots of fish suspended at 10-15. Tossed a deep crank and it was lights out for a half hour or so. At one point, I caught 5 on 6 casts. Probably around 10 or 12, all around 2#. Moved up lake and worked a rocky point. Got a couple decent on a Magnum Rage Bug on a swing jig. Then this one hit and didn't move. Thought I set the hook on the rocks. Once she took off it was a good fight. New PB at 7.5. 30 Quote
