lunkerboss923 Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 Nice fish!!! As for me, I'm kicking myself for not having my phone with me, but the Megabass Dark Sleeper 3/8oz slayed them today!!! I caught (3-4) 2 pound largemouth bass and a beautiful pumpkinseed. All on the Dark Sleeper! I love this lure. 6 Quote

(posted in the wrong thread earlier) we only had from 8-11 to fish today. Drove upstream and the river we planned on fishing was raging, overnight they ran 15k cfs and it was pretty much unfishable. So we tried plan B, river with only 4k cfs. Water temp was 45. We fished for about an hour with no luck and I broke the bill off an original floating rapala, not a great start. Finally my buddy scores on a spinnerbait, about a 17 inch fish. Cool deal, always good for me to physically see a fish caught with one of those silly things. I didn’t want to get skunked so I reached for some night crawlers I had left over from last weekends perch mission. Not long into trying that, I got a hard hit and landed an 18” smallmouth that fought hard, had to use backreel. Next cast I get a stronger fish, it comes up in sight. It’s a big thick smallmouth. Get him into the boat and it’s at least 21” and very tall from dorsal to belly. We didn’t have a scale but both guessed it getting close to 6 lbs. I’ve caught a good many fish longer but none taller, it was heavy. Got some good pics and video , it striped up after 5 minutes in the well (making sure we didn’t have a scale) here’s the 18” first one I got and my buddy’s spinnerbait fish my bait of choice good luck groundhog The catch The release Congrats man! Little piggies! 1 Quote

Holetail Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Another tough day but ground out 4 fish anchored by this 2.2 pounder. On another note, is this Hydrilla or milfoil? 14 Quote

It doesn't bother me much. I went to TX with the hope of getting a PB, and it turns out I probably beat it 3 times between Tuesday and Saturday, my first fish was @ 8lbs and my last was @ 10lbs. By my best guesses, I had a light 7, heavy 5, and a 5 mixed in with a handful of 2-3's and I also got skunked 3 out of 6 days. New lake to me, 4 days with a boat, no electronics, and was probably fishing 6hrs a day max. Lots of failures and successes all rolled into one week. Wish I could have made it 2. scott 16 Quote

There are ducks/geese. No boats. That's about all I could think of that would have done it Quote

Aaron_H Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Got another nice one on the jerkbait today, 15 minutes before I packed it in landed this very pretty 5lb 5oz bass. Took me 35 yards down the bank before it gave up. Much prettier markings than what I typically catch. Maybe I'll get her again in a few years. 13 Quote

Thanks That's not a plant I've seen around here but I see it in enough guides to recognize it. Glad I could be of service. DINKS! Welp. Finally back at the water tomorrow, after 13 straight days of filming. It'll be post-front which is lame, but at least I can stay for more than an hour at a time. I've only caught two bass this month, lost the two biggest ones I hooked. 3 of 5 trips skunk, no more than 7 hours of total fishing time. It's making me feel bad, but it's OK lil buddy. Spawn season is just around the corner. It'll be 100 degree days on the Trinity before we know it. Did manage my first ever cabelas pond bass on my way to location one evening, though, which was a nice consolation. Wish me luck. Imma need that. Also a new set of beard clippers; mine met an unfortunate and unlikely demise. I feel like a dang sasquatch ? 13 1 Quote
Super User Popular Post deep Posted February 17, 2022 Super User Popular Post Posted February 17, 2022 So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater. Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15 FOW, and I feel a slight tick way out. Not even sure it was a tick, partly because the wind was blowing 15 mph and partly because I haven't fished in a long while. So I reel like mad and sweep set, and feel just mush. But the rod is bent and I keep cranking. After 20 odd cranks I finally see the fish, looked pretty big, but she came right in. A few quick photos and get the weight (a few times) and let her go. Then my heart almost sinks because the fish just floats sideways and won't swim out. Fish was never out of water for more than 30 seconds at a time I swear. Try again with the same result. So now I am standing in frigid knee-deep water holding the fish correct side up and occasionally and slowly figure 8-ing her. Finally- after what felt like half an hour- but probably was only a couple minutes, she swims off slowly for the first few feet, and then bolts away.
