Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 15, 2022 Super User Posted January 15, 2022 Couldn't pass up a chance for a 3 generation trip before my daughter headed back to college. Fortunately the spots and even a couple LM were interested in Neds, tubes, and a jig. Water temp 53*. Pops with his first one. Kids always gotta show us up Double hookup. Looks like this guy finally passed something that had to be quite uncomfortable. Great day out there and the cooperative fish were just a bonus. 24 Quote
bigspirit Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 Another post I saw yesterday about worms mentioned the zman fattyz and reinvigorated my obsession with them; so I had to make sure they could still catch fish. First spot of the year was a chunk. Catch a couple smaller fish after but nothing really picture worthy 21 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 15, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 15, 2022 What a fun day. Colder than gee whiz but oh well. @galyonj joined me to fish in my boat while my buddy Craig and his son fished near by in their boat. The fish were fairly cooperative, we got decent numbers and size. Water temp 51. I caught one on my x zone slammer on a jig head, my jig keeper was a little bulky for the bait but it worked immediately. The rest were captured on damiki armor shad on our boat and TRD in Craig’s boat (two of the pics are duplicate of the same fish just different angles) 25 Quote
galyonj Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I hate that we didn't capture the epic battle I had with that stick. 5 Quote

Any other day he could lay in bed till 11am but he knows when I get stuff together the night before and gets out of bed as soon as I do. I left him one time it was a little chilly out and he was noticeably upset, so now he has a fancy jacket ? 1 Quote

I like to take the laziest dog but my wife likes taking the hyper swimming dog haha. A few times we took our big dog, she nearly swam away (fast on land and sea) 1 1 Quote
Aaron_H Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Just an itty bitty guy, but always nice to catch a fish in your backyard. Went out behind the house to make sure a jerkbait was suspending properly after a hardware swap, couple of twitches and POW, little guy smoked it. Shout out to the H2O Xpress Ultimate Jerk Shad. Fantastic action for such an inexpensive lure. I'll definitely be picking up a few more. 11 Quote

I have literally had nightmares about this exact situation ? I have caught a few nice 5lbers in this pond last year and been told “there is a ~9lber in there” my a neighbor. I think this is likely that bass…but no way to tell. It’s a small neighborhood pond but guys stocked it with some big ones over the last 15 years. I thought this one was a large catfish at first. Long cast and it was quite the fight to land her…jumped twice. At first thought it was another one of he 5lbers (had my scale on those!) and then realized “oh Lordy, this is NOT one of those!” 2 Quote
HaydenS Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 (edited) Nice job guys! Looks like we’ve got some big prespawn bass being caught! Edited January 18, 2022 by HaydenS Forgot to finish the sentence. 1 Quote

I went bass fishing for the first time this year today. The wind was blowing 30 MPH out of the East by 9:00 AM. Usually the wind is light out of the East in the morning switching to strong West winds by mid day. I had already peddled to the West end of the lake before the wind picked up, and was getting beat up and tired. I had only caught two small bass, and was getting frustrated. I decided to take a break, and hide behind some trees. I tied up to one and casted a spinnerbait, and Jack Hammer, without any luck in the 2 foot deep water, I was hiding from the wind in. I had a 7 inch Senko, rigged weightless on one rod. I had it rigged for casting at any bass that missed my buzz bait which I had started the morning fishing with. I was going to switch it out to a Texas rig with a half ounce weight to help with the wind. For some reason I decided to cast the Senko out before switching. The Senko didn't even hit the bottom. The next thing I new I had landed my first big bass of 2022. I didn't get another bite but at least the wind switched mid day, making it easy and safe to peddle back to launch. I would like to say I made a wise logical decision on where I fished, and what I threw to catch this 10.4 pound 25.5 inch surprise, but truth be told, I was tired, and to lazy to change lures. I just wanted to take a break, cast something out and eat some lunch. I wasn't even going to go fishing, until I read a thread here, yesterday where people talked about fishing in freezing weather. I decided if they could fish in freezing weather, I could make an effort to get on the water. Just pure luck I was even out. better to be lucky than good. Awesome Fish ! What a way to start the year, a Double Digit Donkey Congrats A-Jay 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 17, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 17, 2022 Got out for my first trip of the year on the powerplant lake. It was tough to say the least, and it didn't help that I didn't do well converting on the few bites I had. Only managed 3 bass, one was a nice one at least. This is the time of year I can sometimes get a flathead to eat a spoon in the hotwater when the shad are packed in there and spawning. I don't think I was there for 5 minutes before I felt a thump even in the current and 15' down. Didn't quite match last years monster, but it was a nice one, too much for my fish grippers on my scale. It just barely got my spoon ? Couldn't get my scale to lock in but it was bouncing around between a high 36 to low 38 pound range. 21 Quote
