Saturday was the first real cold day I've had to fish in this year. Temps weren't bad, the wind sucked though. It was supposed to be 13mph from the NW, the whitecaps argued otherwise. Couldn't even fish a couple areas I wanted to fish the waves were crashing into them so hard. Stayed just warm enough all day that my guides didn't ice up until the temps started dropping from an approaching cold front at around 2, and that's when I left. I bounced around and scrounged 8-10 green fish, several whites and wipers, and 1 each flathead and channel cat. A 2tap caught the 2 bigger bass on the day, shakyhead and Ned caught the rest. Wipers ate a swimbait, flathead was on a jigging spoon.

Fish were pretty active this afternoon after a cold start this morning. Caught a dozen not counting a few dinks mostly on this blade bait with a few on a jerk. Jerkbait got the biggest which was a little better than the one pictured. Looks like we should have more opportunities in the short term. I'll probably have to deal with skim ice the next couple of days because of nights in the 20's. Years ago I would be ice fishing by now.

Cold heavy rain throughout the night had the pond cold and muddy. Threw a little floating JB for twenty minutes and caught four of these feisty jokers while my old hound dog "rambled" around. Had to wake her up to ride back.

I started fishing a couple of months ago
and got use to the 1, 2, and 3 pounders. I was happy and content with those until last Saturday around 8:00 am. Felt a tug and calmly told my husband to “Get The Net”!  My PB so far. I think i am hooked for life!D39825E6-36CF-4AED-8430-2DBA464DF50C.thumb.jpeg.eeaa72fcc46c33c665af89b4dd6bba87.jpeg

It was 5 lbs 3 ounces at 1.7 ft. I don’t know if the picture does the fish any justice….

My Mom hooked a donkey! 5.9 lbs even, her PB. She saw some ripples and called over to me. I told her just leave her bait sitting there. After over maybe half a minute, her line started swimming off. She was excited!

This is true. You’re hooked for life! Your pic does not to justice to how impressive your catch is! This is true! Enjoy the best addiction in life! Congrats!

Ya know being 30 isn't so bad. Caught this on the last cast of the day, not five minutes after realizing I'd been fishing with my drag cranked all day. Two guys landing their bass boat got to watch me land it, which is always fun. What luck.

This bass was, uh, "passing" a senko it had taken from a wacky rig. It was far enough along that there obviously wasn't a hook in it, so I very gently got that out of her and set her back on her way. Not sure what the exact weight of this one was, but I'm guessing about 3.5. Biggest mouth on anything (edit: bass) I've caught this year.

These are five that I've caught over the past two days at Lake Thom-A-Lex. One just shy of 5lbs, one three and a half, and a few around or over 2lbs. I've not been able to get bites deep, only shallow. And if there isn't grass of some sort, forget about it. The best areas seem to be where there's a combination of a rocky bottom and dead grass mats. Laydowns don't hurt either. All fish caught on spinnerbaits shallow.

Hope ya'll are well this holiday season.

1st on a Megabass Vision 110. 2nd on a Sukoshi Bug.  Both off grass covered humps surrounded by deep water. Had big Spot on that escaped just short of the net. Fished from 10am - 4pm today in steady 15 - 20 mph winds with gust to 40 mph.

I haven't posted on this site in ages, but can't resist boasting about last evening's phenomenal bank fishing adventure. I wasn't expecting much at all after the recent cold front and didn't even bring my scale, but I must have landed 50 pounds of bass in just 2 hours, all while being harassed by 2 hungry gators. Every time I hooked a bass the dragons would rush for it, and I had to  manhandle and then flip 5 and 6 pounders on to the bank to avoid disaster. Fortunately, my Dobyns 734 and 17 lb Seaguar fluoro didn't let me down. All the bass were enticed with the Gambler 10 inch ribbon worm in some sort of dark purple. Pictured are a few of last night's glory pigs:

The fish were as miserly as Scrooge this AM. Only managed one but at least it was over 2 lbs. left the finesse gear home to try out a jerk bait and Lipless. Was marking fish suspended but couldn’t buy a bite other than the first before the sun came over the trees. Merry Fishmas to all!ED5909BB-FBAA-4232-ADE4-51075026D5D3.thumb.jpeg.d8002c84e63167dfa0a240b7915b750a.jpeg

It's a good day to catch my first positively identifiable spotted bass. I have a few others this year that I suspect may have been spotties but the dorsal fins aren't sticking out so I can't see a bridge. But they have the ventrolateral stripes, spots above the lateral line, and smaller mouths. Those, and this one were all caught in the same general 100 yard area.

I lost a huge catfish, as well. It and the spottie were the only hard hits I had today.

It was 75, sunny, but gusts to 30. Hope everyone is having a happy holiday

Our weather handed me a Christmas present today. Rainfall overnight and a good part of today had storm inlets running which makes for some good fishing.  Seemed more like March than December with temps in the 50's. Caught eight in about two hours on a micro chatterbait with a crappie magnet trailer. Not rapid fire action like some times but I'm not complaining.  We're gonna pay for this weather eventually.

Haven’t even got a swipe from a bass on a micro Chatter in the ponds I fish - strange. I’ve given up on them - lol.
