Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 14, 2021 Super User Posted August 14, 2021 The Summer of Ugh continues. Fished before sunrise until after 1:00 pm. Three bites = 3 dinks. That was it. Three. Bites. First dink at least was semi-exciting as he hit a Whopper Plopper just at sunrise. Only took a pic because it looked so “huge” compared to the WP lol. The other two were caught almost back-to-back on a #297 Senko WR. I used a frog, a Pop Max, spinnerbait, jerkbait, weightless and weighted Texas rigs, dropshot and man, was it dead. 10 1 Quote
gunsinger Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Me and a buddy got out early this morning. They weren’t jumping in the boat but we managed 9 decent ones, all on some variety/technique of worm. I always fish to the very end end and this day was no exception. As we neared the launch, I made a cast and decided to remote start the truck to cool it down. About the time the engine turned over, I felt a little tap. I set the hook on this nice 2 lb bass. He was preceded by this little feller who was just a tad smaller. 14 Quote
Aaron_H Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Weather reports said no more storms until after dark, so I headed out to my favorite ponds. Only made it 30 mins before the lightning started and I had to pack it in, but I lucked into my first double so it was a memorable trip at least. Coupla little guys on a 1/2 oz Rattlin' Rapala in bluegill. 16 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 14, 2021 Super User Posted August 14, 2021 It was an overcast morning with spotty drizzle. Our heat wave is coming to an end. I hit the river by the dam where the water is flowing strong. Same strategy of casting a T-Rigged Z-Man TicklerZ on a 1/0 worm hook and a 1/8 tungsten bullet weight has paid dividends. After catching a few dink Smallmouth and Sunfish big enough to take a 1/0 worm hook I felt a solid hit. A nearly 16” Smallmouth gave me a great fight in the current. 15 Quote
Jmurphy87 Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 Not much for me, I will just say it I got skunked ?. We got to the park 45 minutes before closing tonight, so not a whole lot of time to fish. I didn’t even bother throwing the waders on and walking down my normal bank. That probably takes me 20 minutes one way if I don’t cast a whole lot. I took everything out of my pockets and just waded in the empty swimming area. Had one miss my whopper plopper 110. That was all the action I saw. They were going nuts further down in the area I normally fish would have been a great top water night if we had more time ?. My wife got one though on a Smokey shad 4 inch rage menace weightless on a 3/0 owner twist lock light wire hook, my preferred hook brand. Probably a little bit over 17 inches long. I am so proud of her ?, her biggest fish of the year so far I think. Now if only I could get her to quit using her zebco reel, yep that’s going to take a minute. 14 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 15, 2021 Super User Posted August 15, 2021 I hit some ponds yesterday. At one pond the dinks were in full feeding mode. I picked up 10 small bass in about 2-1/2 hours. They were in water willows around the deeper part of the pond. This is the biggest of day. 14 Quote

Yeah I always could, I passed it down to her it’s the one I used last year. A omega z3 or something. To top it all off I got to go swimming with my clothes on to go grab my whopper ploper 110 in bone when my line snapped on the cast lol. A friend of mine gave me a old pinnacle deadbolt classic bait caster ? they couldn’t quite get it down over the years. I don’t know why but I love old cheaper reels people give me to play with. I have fancier newer reels but the older ones hold a special place in my heart for some odd reason. I think I need to replace the line on it same old crusty line that came on it. I just stripped some off the top that looked old and discolored, found line that still looks good and is still fairly strong. Now I need to check the guides on my lews David fritts perfect crank bait speed stick 9 foot extendable rod after reading some reviews lol. Quote
TheBasslayer Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 I caught this 2 pound Bass at the lake that my mom’s friend has a vacation house on! This is my PB kayaking fish so far! (Sorry i haven’t posted much in the last few weeks.) 16 Quote

gunsinger Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 Got out this AM before church. Temps were good with mostly cloudy skies and a light breeze. Only scored two bass bites but both were decent. 2.3 and 2.2 lbs both caught on a 7.5 Culprit Fire n Ice ribbon tail on the Tokyo rig. 13 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 15, 2021 Global Moderator Posted August 15, 2021 Tired the Johnson silver minnow for about an hour this morning with no bites. I couldn’t stand it anymore and grabbed a worm. Thump………. Then I tried the spoon for a while longer to no avail (still no captures on that……..). Then I trolled a shad rap and got 3 smallies around 12” or so. Then I saw a bunch of those toothy critters and I couldn’t resist !!!! Got another 40”, quite the battle on 6 lb mono 18 Quote
Jmurphy87 Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 Nothing too special today got out from noon till four pm, got maybe 10 total. Definitely nothing big and the bite was slow for the most part. I had a gut feeling they wanted a moving bait bite, so I started out slow with a 3/16 oz green pumpkin weight along with a rage menace 4 inch in summer craw and caught three on that. The biggest small fish came on that, then I switched out to a max scent creature hawg in green pumpkin same bullet weight and caught at least 6 more. The one fish was not super long but was a little chunky for its length. I did see two decent bass cruise by my in the shallows though, I told them I could do with catching them right about now but they wanted no part of that lol. Heading back out with the wife hear in a hour or so we will see. I am going to go with a top water routine for sure, can’t resist. 10 Quote

Probably a terrible diameter but I’ve caught some hogs with it, I got a bigger gar just recently on it 1 Quote

Yeah that lake doesn’t get much boat traffic really, maybe 10 total boats, that’s probably the clearest part of the lake mostly shallow on that end. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 16, 2021 Global Moderator Posted August 16, 2021 Had a pretty tough weekend around here. Stopped by after work Thursday morning last week to test my new Bass X spinning rod. Got 8 without hardly moving my feet in 30 minutes. Fished an MLF tournament on the same lake later that night, managed 9 in 3.5 hours and missed 1st place by 2 fish. Saturday I had one of the hardest tournaments I've ever fished. On the power plant lake I spend so much time on throughout the year, but we got a ton of rain Friday and it came way up overnight, plus there's a billion young of the year shad in the lake right now, so they're even more fat and lazy than usual. 11 of us on the water, I think there was 9 or 10 bass entered with an 8" minimum. I worked hard all day to squeak out 3 bass that went 40.5". Almost half of that being a 19" fish that inhaled a swimbait in some flooded water willows and was the big bass of the day. Had another big one roll on the same swimbait and miss, a huge blowup on a buzzbait that missed, and a fish break me off on a Ned on a log. Missed first place by 4" ?. I did find out that all I have to do is basically show up to the next tournament and I'll win AOY, so that's pretty cool to accomplish in my first year. 21 Quote
gunsinger Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 Congrats on the fish you caught and the pending AOY. Quote
