CrankFate Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Was in a local fishing tournament today, bank fishing only. My first ever. And likely my last. Actually at the lake I caught my first LMB in when I was 4 or 5 years old. It was like 4 or 5 inches. Haven’t fished there since I was 5 or 6 years old. We did no scouting or prefishing. Because life. Too many other things to do. We did OK with 7 fish between us. All dinks. Only one of each of our fish made the 10” minimum size limit. I was #23 out of 58. I think my son was 2nd for the kids, because he was only a half inch behind the winner. My bag was 39 inches, counting the shorts. My son’s was 30. It was a terrible 92 degree day, with horrible, oppressive air quality. This was the only time I was ever happy it started to rain during the last two and a half hours. We did OK considering we had no real game plan, except me looking at google maps. 18 Quote
gunsinger Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Got out and tried the Free Rig today after watching @Glenn’s video. Caught 4 on it with the one below being the best of the lot. I found it hard to detect the bite but it may have been because they were cruising and picking it up on the fall. My only clue came from line movement. Caught a total of 6 but only one was picture worthy. 16 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted July 18, 2021 Super User Posted July 18, 2021 First time out from the new house. Been so busy since moving in a couple weeks ago. I think I'm going to like this lake. 26 Quote

RealtreeByGod Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 What the hell is this? I thought it was a spot at first until looking at the pictures where it seems awful dark and the eye really stands out. Could it be a red eye? I caught it on Chickamauga, a vagrant doesn't seem completely implausible to be in there. 12 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 18, 2021 Super User Posted July 18, 2021 If it doesn’t stop raining soon I am going to build an ark. I bank fished this morning in the pouring rain on my local stretch of river. I was throwing a Rapala Original Floating Minnow F07 in Perch color. Abu Garcia Max Z 20 reel 8# mono on a Lew’s TP1X ML 6’9” finesse rod. I caught 6 Smallies and a couple of Sunfish before calling it a day. 15 Quote
ThrowinPlugs Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 First post in this topic, its been a solid July for me in my local lake here on Long Island. Been picking apart this lake weekly, it has a history of good fish but I've only caught (and seen caught) sub 1 lb fish regularly. I've been finding the bigger ones after playing with different offerings. Nice that the place is 10 min from my house. These were a week within eachother. Ned rigs crushed it. As well as drop shots spinnerbaits and poppers even RatLRaps. 18 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 20, 2021 Super User Posted July 20, 2021 Hit the local reservoir this afternoon under some really nice post-frontal conditions. Sure beats the heat and humidity we've had recently. Happy to report a steady bite, landing 33 bass, topped by a 4.58 pound fish that crushed a deep crankbait. 19 Quote

Jesus that's more than I've caught so far this month. I suck! 4 Quote

Launched at 2:00 PM and was back at the ramp by 6:30 PM, and this is typically a somewhat stingy body of water. Only 8 were “keepers,” but that’s pretty good for July on most of our reservoirs. Looking forward to the next trip out, hopefully later this week. 5 Quote
Bassin' Brad Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 This 6 lb toad picked up a weightless fluke off the bottom and ran with it. #justapondbass 19 Quote
RealtreeByGod Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I've only had the opportunity to fish alot for 2 weeks this year, but every bass I've caught with the exception of 3 pond dinks and a 5.5ish pounder that I caught as bycatch while catfishing has been on a Ned Rig. 13 Quote

Heh, You should read Ned Kehde's In-Fisherman article on @Team9nine from 2011: https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/a-summary-of-bass-fishing-in-central-indiana-in-2011-from-the-perspective-of-brian-waldman/156561 "His e-mail also included a statistical summation of his entire year, which noted that he fished for bass 82 times and for a total of 260 hours. The average length of each trip was three hours, 10 minutes. He caught 2,305 bass, which is an average 8.86 bass per hour or one bass every six minutes and 46 seconds." 1 Quote
BigSkyBasser Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 The hot dry year has made for one of the best Topwater seasons of my entire life! Girlfriend has only been bass fishing 3 times ever and already has a PB of 3 pounds. Probably gonna start whooping on me soon 16 Quote

This pond gets duckweed and algae, but not bad. No lily pads, no big weed beds that extend out feet from shore. It’s really pretty clear. Most of the action has always been casting under or near tree limbs that overhang the water, or parallel to the bank about 10’-12’ out. It was very productive all last year except for most of September, and all this year until mid-May. I caught my 5+ lb bass (5.12 lbs) in March and the last one over 3 lbs (3.64 lbs) on May 4, and since then it’s been nothing but dinks up to 2 lbs. Sounds like a fantastic place to throw a whopper plopper or a buzzbait, or if they want something a bit more subtle a popper or walking bait. Quote
keagbassr Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Got out for a total of 8 hours today. gunsinger Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 My house was hosting the show choir seniors meeting last night; 20 boys and girls plus the directors. It was made clear that I needed to make myself scarce. It was a bit rainy off and on (no lightning) so I figured fishing was a better use of my time than hiding in my bedroom. The show choir director's husband agreed so, off we went. We got in a couple of hours and only caught 5 between us. This was the last, and best, fish of the night. Sadly, it was so dark by this time, I could not see the line movement and never felt him so he ended up taking the boat ride home to his new resting place in my freezer. His passing was odd though. Despite being hooked deep, i was able to successfully extract the hook without bloodshed or obvious damage to his gills. But, by the time I put him back into the water, he was a floater. I didn't think I kept him out too long but maybe I did, which begs the question, how long is too long for a fish to be out of the water? 8 Quote
