Mbirdsley Posted June 17, 2021 Posted June 17, 2021 Crossing the mighty Mack as I am writing this. Last night was the last day in DA U.P. finally found some decent bass numbers in reeds on the south side of the lake. Also, caught my first bass on a top water frog, a booyah pad crashed. Same as before fish came on a Berkly general worm T-rigged. When I ran out of those ( reeds tear those suckers up). I switched to a green and neon green strike king shimmee stick t-rigged. it’s been a great trip fishing could have been better. I think if we had been a week later fishing would have improved. Still good to be in gods country though ( upper Michigan ) I think I’m converting my lighting rod to a top water rod. I was using flouro just because that’s what I had. I’m either putting mono or braid on it now. If I get more into it I’ll buy a better set up 21 Quote

Than it’s look out into the lake or ahead never down. Actually the bridge authority was replacing some grates. How would you like to be welding a section of grate with that big hole or nothing below except a 500-700 for drop into Lake Michigan/Lake Huron 1 Quote

Then I realize how big the drop is. Normally I’m fine though! 1 Quote

It connects Michigan’s upper and lower peninsula. It is also the imaginary line between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron( technically they are the same lake). That’s a 1,000 footer ( a type of lower laker freighter that is 1,000 feet long we call them thousand footers ) going underneath of it. Not my photo stole it from google 8 Quote

The Mackinac Bridge, or the Mighty Mac, is the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the U.S. It connects the Lower Peninsula of Michigan with the Upper peninsula of Michigan. It is 26,372 feet long and 155 feet from the water. A car was blown off the bridge in the 80s, but they close the bridge when the wind is high. I’ve went across it a few times, and it’s big! And I only got one fish today on the Ned rig, although I missed many more on 3 lures including the Ned rig. 3 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 18, 2021 Global Moderator Posted June 18, 2021 Took my kayak out this morning to try and get a little feel for fishing in standing timber to prepare for an upcoming tournament Saturday. It was good practice, at least the kayak handling part. I had a bite on a spinnerbait and a small fish pull down a buzzbait but no hookups. Found a Berkley Bullet Pop, took my buzzbait off and tied it on. About 5-6 cast later I hooked a good puller but my 6' MH/F wasn't exactly the best rod for fighting a fish on a treble hooked bait and she pulled off when it dove under the kayak. I finally caught a dink on my flipping bait, lost the bait and switched colors. Next 3 cast flips in a row were a 19 incher, walleye, and another dink. Not sure if I hit the right spot or the color change did the deal. Left shortly after and only caught 1 more small walleye. 20 Quote
hokiehunter373 Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Got out last night and left far too many bites in the water that kept what could have been a great night to just a good one. Caught this 2.5 pounder and a few dinks. Had a giant blow up on my frog but she completely missed it. Had a good fish eat my bluegill swimbait while I was hung up and I didn't even realize it was on. Had her for a second but with barely any hookset she got off. Missed another on a jig with a weak hookset and had another pop off the frog. Could of been a night with my biggest 5 ever but oh well. Oh and I'm definitely going to be having a fish fry soon from this place. 17 Quote

gunsinger Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Got out today with BIL. This was his first time bass fishing. He caught three on a wacky worm and TR and it was so much fun watching reel in his first one. His three are in this batch. I added 4 to that bunch and had 4 others that I had to release due to size. This one was the best of the lot @ 16”. 16 Quote
