TriStateBassin106 Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Best night of bass fishing this year so far with me catching a solid 2 and a bunch of other fish all on a texas tig ribbontail worm. The 2lber hit the culprit worm on the fall and I saw a flash dart out towards the bait lol. 16 Quote
keagbassr Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 So after enduring and somehow surviving a 21 day stretch where i couldnt get out in the boat i hit the water today at 7 and fished til 1. I caught 11 total , 1 on bladed jig and 3 on a buzzbait but it was a choppo 120 that did the most work catching 7 including the 2 best of the day at 3-9 and 4-5 both of which came in the first 15-20 casts with the bait. 19 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted June 9, 2021 Super User Posted June 9, 2021 Bass are CRAZY. I was reeling in my Gantarel Jr thru an open lane, and about 6' away from a stand of Lily pads when I saw this guy shoot out and T-bone my bait. He missed, then shot back into the pads. I got the bait back to within a rod's length of where I was standing when I saw a flash from the same spot he'd ran to just seconds earlier. He actually got between me and the bait, then headshotted it. He was totally driven to eat it, and it might just weigh more than him. Nutz! 21 Quote
gunsinger Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 I caught a few smallies while stationed at Ft. Devens, MA. They were exceptional fighters. Congrats. The wind calmed and I moved out to the end of the hump where I found several decent fish hanging in 15' - 20'. These fish, as well as a number of others the previous two trips found a TRD TicklerZ on a 1/16 oz. Midwest Finesse jighead to their liking. After this bite stopped, Moved to an area that had a very steep drop into sangrass. The night before I had put together a Tiny Child rig and this proved its worth on the first cast. So, it’s been raining cats and dogs for a week. The yard is flooded so I can’t get my boat out without tearing up the grass. I decided to drive over and walk the dam at the lake just to relax. Caught this guy and 4 of his brethren. First time I’d fished off the bank in a while. 16 Quote
CrankFate Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Couple of good sized males that were protecting a cloud of tiny fry that was about 25 feet wide, 3 feet across and around 2 feet deep. Most I have ever seen. They were spaced out about 5 feet away from each other along the big cloud. There were smaller clouds around, too. Nice to catch fish breaking in the new setup. These jerkbaits work. 17 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted June 9, 2021 Super User Posted June 9, 2021 Ya gotta love it when things work out as planned. Last time out, fish were swiping at the buzzbait and would pull it down just missing the hook. I figured I’d try a trailer hook and see if it would solve the problem. This 5.4lber slurped down my buzzbait and definitely made for a great morning on the water… 24 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted June 10, 2021 Super User Posted June 10, 2021 Something is very wrong with me this season. I think I need to get checked out. I’m actually catching fish now this season. I had a 20 minute fishing window and caught her in the 12th minute, lol. I caught this off the dock amidst a lot of swimmers. I honestly thought this was going to be a skunkaroo with all the swimmers. This beautiful bass took my creme creature on the drop barely 15’ from a swimmer on the opposite side of the dock. If you look close enough, I crimped the barb. I think I’m going to go barbless for most non critical situations. 21 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted June 10, 2021 Super User Posted June 10, 2021 My buddy called me last night after getting in at 10 pm. 15 hr work day and a 200 mile round trip. He'd stopped off during his travels to pick up his new 7'7" Phenix Feather/Alde combo, so he really wanted to give it some swings. He also picked up a Cicada bait, and he was all hopped up. I agreed to meet him for a quick sesh. When we hit the spot I wanted to work first I asked him what lb test his line was. 10lb Sniper. I'd fished this spot two days ago, so I knew it was way too choked out for that line. That night I caught a 4.53 that dove into the weeds. It bent out a 6/0 Owner hook, but I landed it anyway. I've never had one of those hooks bend once, even with 6lbers, so those weeds in this area are no joke. Good thing I was running straight 30lb braid. He moved down to a friendlier area. I started out by dragging my Nories over a huge stand of weeds and letting it drop into holes, then I hooked up. I thought for sure that I'd hooked a world record for a second. My heart was pounding as I yelled out "Big One". Too bad there was about 10lbs of weeds encapsulating a barely 2lb bass, if that. My buddy took the picture, then went back to the spot he was fishing. About a half hour went by when I decided to move down to where he was. I found him sitting on his tackle bag, rod pointed forward, line in the water, and out cold snoring. I was just about home at 2:00 am when I saw a small dog that I didn't recognize darting back and forth across the street. It was clearly lost. It took me about a half hour to gain his trust and get him to play. He tentatively followed me into my back yard where I was able to lock the gate. A few treats let me get close enough to read his collar, and thankfully there was a phone #, but it went straight to voice mail. Left a text, but nothing. My dog was at the back door, and this little guy was howling non stop like a blood hound. My poor neighbors! Our grand daughter will be here at 7:30, so my wife wanted to shoot me. The owner finally called at 4:30, and was a half hour away. She'd left him with a dog sitter a few blocks from me, and I guess the dog sitter is an idiot. He flew into her arms like superdog . What a night! 22 Quote

Planning to go there with my dad this weekend so I figured I'd stop by and see how the access is from the bank, what the algae is like, how the fish are acting right now, and just how much has changed there. We had scorching temperatures this weekend and the fish were AGGRESSIVE! I showed up with a frog, a bluegill squarebill, and a wacky rig. First cast I caught a 2 pounder and I knew I was in for a special evening. I made the most of 2 hours and caught somewhere around 12-15 fish with most being in the 2-3 pound range. All of them were spawned out as I expected but one was still fat. They were all shallow, assumingly feeding on the bluegills that are up spawning. I didn't switch any of my baits out because of how frenzied everything was but I'm assuming they would have bit anything last night. Most fun I've had in a longgg time and I really needed it after dealing with some personal stuff lately. And all of that doesn't even include the absolute behemoth I lost 6" from shore. The bank has a bit of a drop off that you need to walk down to get to the water. Not to mention, there's a bunch of farm cats that wait by your side to try to attack the fish you land lol. She blew up on my frog about 5-7 yards from shore. Swam parallel to the bank in front of me and I about lost my mind when I saw how long she was. She barely even swam to fight me just leaned all her weight against me. Biggest fish I've ever hooked so I can't say how big she COULD have been but I know without a doubt she was over 5 and I wouldn't be surprised if she was pushing 7-8+. I'm guessing I tried to muscle her a little too much in all the adrenaline and dealing with the cats and the drop off and she got off before I could get down to her. Legit had her at the bank but just didn't have myself there in time. Absolute heartbreak and I may have said some words loud enough to get the cows mooing but I'll be back for her til I get her. This is what my frog looked like after I lost her. And the sign of an awesome day! Well I didn't get big Bertha but when you best your previous PB by a pound and a half there's no complaining! 2nd cast of the night and my Pulse Tail Bluegill got smoked! Was a lot more calm and worked the fish perfect. Instead all the rushing happened with trying to get a quick weight and get her back into the water safely. Scale registered at 3-15 and I wish I would have done it again to see if it hit 4 but oh well. About 19" long. Caught 5 or 6 more with another 2 and 2.5 mixed in on the wacky rig plus this little guy with a big appetite for the whopper plopper. 24 Quote

I’ll never be able to give you an honest review on it, because the first fish I got on it was like over 5lbs. It is stiff with a rubberyness to it that you get with Japanese rods made for moving baits, but has the backbone and quick recovery you need to puncture hard with small treble hooks. 15 Quote
Super User deep Posted June 10, 2021 Super User Posted June 10, 2021 Walked the banks for a couple hours in the morning, and caught a bunch of 14"-16" fish on topwaters. Couple a little bigger than that. This one was on a Kelly J; pretty neat bait I got last week. 19 Quote
lo n slo Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 we caught 28 spots this morning, mostly on Zoom U tail worms, in 15-20 fow. and another great day on the water with my grandson is in the books. 24 Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 Got up at 3:45 and drove an hour and a half to go fish on a big lake near my grandparents' old place. Wasted two hours beating the bank, so I decided to try a little creek where a buddy and I used to fish a few years ago and boy did it pay off. In about 90 minutes I caught 7 fish, including a 3-10 on a ned rig and my first swim jig fish. The little guy on the Keitech football jig was the smallest one of the day, although that's not saying much. 21 Quote
Biglittle8 Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Only a couple over dink status... The small guys were tearing up the Sugar Plum Dingers.(12 fish on the same Dinger) Hooked a real hawg that busted off my War Eagle spinnerbait and left me with a couple of spinners tied to my line. Unfortunately, I got to see it before it made it's getaway. 16 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 11, 2021 Super User Posted June 11, 2021 Few good ones from past few days. Not sure what happened to the third guy, why he’s bleeding. He did not swallow my worm. Hope he makes it out okay ☹️ 14 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 12, 2021 Super User Posted June 12, 2021 No river giants yet but I am having lots of fun with the Whopper Plopper 60 My other catches have come on a Zman Finesse TRD on a Kastking Ned jig EWG hook. Anytime I can get to fish the last few weeks is a blessing. My Dad had a nasty fall and his health has deteriorated as a result. He is finally home from the hospital. That presents a whole new set of challenges as my elderly Mom is his primary caretaker. Between work, my own responsibilities at home and helping take care of him I am stretched pretty thin. 13 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted June 12, 2021 Super User Posted June 12, 2021 Finally got a chance to make it out for the first time since the 3rd week of April. We've had some unseasonably cool weather the past couple days that dropped the lake to 72* and the bite wasn't as wide open as it would usually be. Junkfished our way to 20 in a few hours... awesome being out there again! Pops' first fish in over 7 weeks... The LM were pretty active today while the spots were surprisingly quiet in the water I was working (0-30ft). Junk fishing was the specialty of the day. Caught this on the second cast on a dark sleeper with my new 903. Underspin Dropshot Topwater Pops' last of the day on a Ned rig. 16 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted June 12, 2021 Super User Posted June 12, 2021 First trip back on the bank after a brief medical hiatus this week. Felt good to swing on some fish. Picked off about 2 dozen, including one over 4.5 lbs.. Dumped one equally as big, but not going to complain. Everything today came on Baby Boo jig and trailer. Looking forward to some cooler weather next week according to the forecast. Heat and humidity seems to get tougher every year. Think I'm just getting old - lol. 12 Quote
AmmoGuy Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Record rainfalls here the last three days. Flooding everywhere. I’ve never seen it rain that hard, for that long in my life. Slipped out this evening after it all moved out and got to tug on a good one. 23.5”. She was a pig. I’m 6’6” 280. 17 Quote

A lot of rain and storms seems to have cooled off the bite. Only caught four today. Two were true dinks. This one was on a tried-and-true #956 Senko WR. I tried various jerkbaits, squarebills and topwaters and had zero strikes. I took a Whopper Plopper off my new Daiwa Tatula on a Dobyns Fury FR705CB and decided to try a weightless Fat IKA on a 3/0 EWG just to see how it would fare. Boy, I was surprised! First, it really casted that bait a long way for a weightless TR, but I had it skipping under branches as well. Had a dink hit it and then I had a decent strike. Setting the hook was not an issue. I know that’s not the application that rod is designed for, but darned if I could tell! 22 Quote
Super User Popular Post king fisher Posted June 13, 2021 Super User Popular Post Posted June 13, 2021 I went fishing at Tepic Yesterday. I found some fish at 12 feet on a ledge in the morning. Landed a dozen 4 - 5.5 pound bass on deep diving cranks, spinnerbaits, and an A rig. The wind picked up to 30 MPH in the afternoon, moving some bait and the bass off the ledge and on to the adjoining 5 foot deep rocky flat. First cast on the flat in the evening with a magnum size square bill I landed this bass. Measured just shy of 26 inches, and weighed a little over 10 pounds. Landed 3 more around five pounds each, and called it a great day. 31 Quote
