Found a new lake to checkout, picked the worst day to go out in a sit in kayak, started out cloudy then to a torrential downpour lol. Only stayed out for 3 hours, caught 2 1.5lb'rs and this 2.5lb'r. Top water bite.

Went back to that same lake, got there late, 9am, and stayed till 6pm just as the bite was turning up. Caught a few dink 1.5lb fish, a 2.5lb and this 3lb. Slow day, very hot, sunny, no clouds, almost no action on the lily pads, and spent most of the day exploring and learning what to do. Not very productive fishing wise, but not a total bust.

I need to stick to going out after 3-4pm, or learn how to fish in the heat lol. Lake seemed to be 8-10ft deep, i should have tried to fish that deeper water vs throwing worms and frogs around vegetation all day.

Got my 3rd Thursday night tournament win of the year yesterday and big bass to boot. One of my all blue bladed jigs was getting the job done.

Hit the lake solo last night for a few hours. Started flipping and frogging in the pads while the sun was still high, didn’t get a bunch but got one decent, fat guy. Then as the sun dropped I flew back out to the main lake for smallmouth. Just got set up on a big flat off the side of an island, and in three casts, caught three decent ones on a popper, when a pontoon full of people shut down about 100yds from me. Once I saw the paddles, I knew they weren’t fishing. Idled over, and sure enough, the old guy didn’t check his gas can before heading out, so I lost about 20 min of prime topwater time towing them about 2 miles to their cottage. No biggie though, as I was able to blast back out and hammer a bunch more on top before it got too dark and they shut down again. No monsters, but it was nonstop action and they were all super fat and healthy with every fish jumping about 4 or 5 times each.

I had a whole bag of baits with me today when I left at 6am I wound up using 1 bait most of the day. The Yo-Zuri 3DB Popper I got at Walmart last week for $5 it was magic today for the early morning Smallmouth Bite. No monsters but a fun day no doubtspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

Finally got the boat out after a couple month hiatus on a 400 ac. community reservoir. Put the finesse gear to work in some hot weather and high boat traffic to land around a dozen keepers. Slider came through again for me, along with a Ned rig for my buddy.

Fishing after a small lake the day after a tournament is always challenging for me, especially with water Temps near 80.

Today I was just happy to get a few 3 pounders.

Took Lake and my oldest niece Lilly fishing Sunday. With all the lakes being 80+ degree water temps and Lilly having very little fishing experience, we pretty much were limited to going somewhere we could fish for whatever was biting and they needed to be biting fast. I even bought some nightcrawlers to make sure that fish were caught. They both caught lots of bluegills, several drum, and Lilly caught a bass and channel cat. I'm not a big fan of catching drum, but they were great for the kids because they bit so readily, pull hard, and they get good sized.

Haven't fished much recently but got out to do a river float today. Not quite the fastest action (or the biggest fish) I've had on this river, but very satisfactory--20 smallies and a couple largemouth in 5 hours.

A handful of 14"ers showed up, like this one:

And here's a somewhat beaten-up and abnormally skinny 18.5" -- couldn't have weighed more than 2lbs. A shame -- this would have been quite a nice river fish if it was healthy:  look at the head compared to the body.  I wonder if it unfortunately has a taste for discarded plastics...

A much healthier one on the next cast, 2 inches shorter, but seemed heavier.  190730Float16.5.thumb.jpg.e2a67b6e19cfef6045f7639975563b27.jpg

Nicely done! Sounds like a good day all together. That one does look like it’s seen better days. Which river?

hit the water at 0530 this AM, got a new PB shortly after. got her on the slammer, she followed it to the boat then rolled on it. i saw it all go down.  this is actually my first bass on the slammer. a bit ago i got a monster chain pickerel that was all sorts of huge. included is a pic of that and another good fish from the day, ate a spro rock crawler. productive morning, few more fish here and there on drop shot. hit a sudden rock and prop fell off had to go overboard to retrieve it. too much action before 8 am. tuckered.

Man those kids steal the show from all the grown men holding fishies :P

That little boy cracks me up, he's all straight-faced when his sister holds up those big fish. "big deal" I can see above his head.  But he's got a huge grin when its his turn...probably reading into it, just struck me as funny.  Great pics.

On the water at 8am - caught this baby about 8:30 on a willow/colorado spinner with yellow/orange skirt. 3.92 lbs...well under my PB, but the first decent fish of the year.

That was the ONLY fish of the day though.

Nice one man!

Another slow day for numbers, but my partner managed to get the 5.4 on a foul-hooked popper in a foot of water.  The rest of hit were 3lb LM.  Where the heck did the SM go?  You would never know this lake was know for it SM quality by what we caught in the last month.

It's amazing what small changes can produce.  Look at this little cove:

FIeG6M6l.jpg

I could see bass moving in the shallows, mostly dinks but the occasional 1-2lb fish.  It was hot and sunny out and I spent about 45min casting a Senko all over it.  A few of the tiniest of dinks would grab it and run, but nothing big enough to even hook.  I walked away for 20min to try another spot. then came back.  I tied on a 3.5" Fat Impact rigged with just a hook and some nail-weights.  Immediately caught a 1lb bass, killing my paddletail.  While I was re-rigging some clouds blew in and from then it was game-on.  In the next 20 min I got five (FIVE!) more bass from dink to maybe 1.5lb and then got this nice little 2.5:

xeBfGPSl.jpg

I soon ran out of FI's and the same rig with a Rage Swimmer produced nothing.  Sure, 7 bass out of a spot the size of a backyard pool might be all there was to catch, but I quickly walked to the other parts of the pond with similar conditions and still nothing.
