lo n slo Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 we seem to have developed a little thermocline thing around here and i’ve had to adjust. my deep bite has fallen off real bad. swt’s are in the 85 degree range and 17’ deep seems to be the cutoff, according to the sonar. so i’ve moved back in the creeks a little further and kept my eyes on the Garmin. found one decent area in particular, but some others weren’t so great. ground out 9 spotties and one largemouth. 12 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted July 12, 2019 Super User Posted July 12, 2019 Went out hoping to reproduce to previous days punch bite, leaving the house at 0500 and it was 65 degrees and barely a slight breeze, forecast high was in the upper 90’s. Tide was an hour later, water was around 73 degrees when I dropped the boat in and headed to my first spot looking forward to a little top water action. I didn’t get anything to commit on top, so I picked up a “bladed jig” and after several casts my bait just stopped. Man, what a great feeling when your rod loads up and the fight begins knowing it’s a good fish! She weighed 4.9lbs and my novice picture taking efforts didn’t do her justice. The chatter-bait was the ticket this morning and I decided to get off the water early before the afternoon heat set in... 16 Quote
AndrewJ Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 3 Lbs spot on an otherwise rough fishing day on July 1st. Oh and my first post in about a year, so hi everyone. 13 Quote
Super User deep Posted July 13, 2019 Super User Posted July 13, 2019 Slowly figuring out a thing or three fishing this newish-to-me reservoir. The "tree" bite I found and refined the last two trips was almost nonexistent. I paddled and graphed around a lot; and found a few fish. Caught several, including these two on back-to-back casts; thought that was pretty cool. 16 Quote
Russ E Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 While I have had a decent year Bass fishing, bigger fish have been fairly scarce. last few weeks picked up a little. I caught one that was 5lb 3 oz a couple weeks ago and another 5lb. 2oz yesterday. Now that the weather has finally stabilized, hopefully the lakes clear up. Could be a good late summer/fall. Some of the local reservoirs have been closed to boating for a while. they could be good once opened. 16 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted July 13, 2019 Super User Posted July 13, 2019 Squam is known as an excellent SM fishery. This Summer we have been catching a LOT of LM in the same areas. This morning numbers were low but a 5.3 LM on a NEKO in 10 feet made my day. 17 Quote
The Bassman Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Impromptu outing while wife was cooking supper. Water was green with algae bloom so I gave a chatterbait a go and caught six, this one being the best, maybe just shy of 3 lb. 12 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted July 14, 2019 Super User Posted July 14, 2019 Got on the water later than normal this morning. Sun was already high and hot, but still managed a good one on the first cast. Pitched a 10” Culprit ribbon-tail worm to a submerged tree. She went 4lb: The first cast curse was real though, as I only managed a pickerel and a couple more tiny bass the rest of the day. 17 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 Went out this afternoon with the kid for a couple hours. Little lake just behind our house, usually we get out there a few times a year with the tinny. First time this year, and they weren’t really all that hot, but we did get a couple dozen little fellas and the kid got the best of the day, right around 3 lbs that smoked a wacky rig off a tree right beside the boat. 15 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 15, 2019 Super User Posted July 15, 2019 Went out tonight after 6. HOT !! With a slight breeze every now and then. Big fish huntin’ today. Found a old 10 inch cut off Mann’s jelly worm from the late 70s . Fished the first deep hole down the lake . Suddenly a nice fish blew up on the jelly worm. But I had thrown an 80s paddle tail worm out to the other side of the hole. So I went to reel it in to get it out of the way and there was this fish on it. Turned out to be big fish of the day , just shy of 4 pounds. The fish that blew up on the jelly had let go by the time I got the other fish in. Stayed with 10 inch+ worms all evening and caught most of the rest of the fish on the zoom ol’ Monster in watermelon seed. Could not get another big one to bite but I did get a 3 or so. Ended up with 16 Total. 14 Quote
boostr Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Tough day, only managed this guy and a snot rocket. Gave it a little tickle with my pinky so it would raise his dorsal (Always saw Dave Mercer do this... It actually works lol) One thing I've noticed from all the Largmouth I catch from this particular lake, they all have bronze backs. Must be the tanins in the water I guess... Or sun burn... 11 Quote
Arobb2012 Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Caught 5 smallies yesterday morning. Two of them were hooked outside of the mouth back to back fish. I've never had this happen before. 8 Quote
hawgenvy Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Florida fishing can be tough in the summer. Nevertheless, I managed to nail a few good ones tonight using an old favorite, the big, fat 7" Yum Dinger, Texas-rigged weightless and fished slow. Unfortunately, the 7" has been unavailable for 4 or 5 years, discontinued due to poor sales. But it was a darn good bait to entice big sluggish bass in summer. I managed to save an old bag of the baits in watermelon green, and put two of them to good use tonight. I sure wish Yum would reintroduce these monster stick baits. 11 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 16, 2019 Global Moderator Posted July 16, 2019 Got my second Thursday night win of the year this past week. 10 Quote

I was just thinking about that size yesterday. I used most of mine up too. Now I just have a couple bags left but they are colors that don’t work very good. That size is money in the summer for large Florida bass!!! 1 Quote
hawgenvy Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 BPS Stick-o, Yama Senko, and SK Ocho all have 7" models. Haven't tried those yet, but surely will. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted July 16, 2019 Global Moderator Posted July 16, 2019 Saturday night we launch our boat on our lake. I was hitting them good on a Pop-R, the wife her trusty Senko. My son started to get discouraged because he wasn’t catching any. Then his attitude went south, he kept saying I never catch fish (mind you he’s probably caught 50 or more bass than me this year) then he caught a bass. His attitude changed and we all laughed. Lesson learned don’t complain or else.....? 8 6 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 16, 2019 Super User Posted July 16, 2019 Took a Disney guided fishing excursion with my son and good friend while on vacation last week. The Captain put us on some nice Bass. I caught 12 during the two hour trip. 12 Quote

I've heard other guys say they're not too different from Yamamoto. 1 Quote
Super User deep Posted July 16, 2019 Super User Posted July 16, 2019 Tried out another new-ish reservoir yesterday. Caught a few, including these two within a few feet of each other, about an hour apart though! Pitching, punching and frogging. Pads everywhere. Need to spend more time learning this lake and finding the fish- I don't have a topo map. 15 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted July 18, 2019 Global Moderator Posted July 18, 2019 We decided to head down the road a try the bridge. The vampire beaver (his nickname until his teeth come in) pulled the only smallie out of the water and it was a decent one. 16 Quote
Super User deep Posted July 18, 2019 Super User Posted July 18, 2019 So, these stained shallow reservoirs are pretty different from the ones I usually fish. Haven't been catching very many, but the average size has gone way up. Think I could get used to this! Also, a double rainbow! Wonder what it means. 13 1 Quote
