WVU-SCPA Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Found a nice flurry of fish after work on a small wind blown point. Chatterbait with a rage craw ripped out of the grass was the ticket. Heres the best of the evening. 16 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted September 14, 2018 Super User Posted September 14, 2018 I decided to get out on the water this morning, and happy I decided not to cancel on myself. Woke up at 0300 and the wind was howling outside, figured it was going to be a repeat of yesterday. When I finally went downstairs and made a cup of coffee I noticed the wind had stopped, and stepping outside it was dead calm. I’m fishing! I got on the water before first light, last two hours of the incoming tide, water 69 degrees and change. Second stop was a rip-rap bank with sparse tules and some current pushing up on it. I had been successful throwing the Pop Max at my first stop, catching some solid fish up to 2 pounds. So I picked up that rod again. I fired the Pop Max up along the bank and worked the bait towards a small clump of tules. What I believed to be a small fish swirled on the bait, but missed. Instead of retrieving the lure and recasting, I killed it in place. The next twitch I made the water erupted and the fight was on! I could tell right away it was a pretty good fish as it pulled drag and headed into a patch of grass. I was able to get the fish out of the grass and it headed for deep water. The only problem with that was that line was now going towards the other side of the boat between the trolling motor and the bow. For some reason the fish decided to change directions and head for another patch of grass. I was able to hand line her to the boat a short time later and the battle was over! Taking pictures while trying to weighing her was another cluster that I won’t bore you with, but she weighed 6.1lbs and was released unharmed... Good Fishing all, JB 13 Quote
MichaelCopeland Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 I got home, from inventory in West Monroe, around 2:30am this morning and was at Caney Lakes upper side shortly after 3am. Second cast with my 110 Whopper Plopper I had an enormous blowup on it, felt the tug and I didn't even set the hook that hard and pulled it out of its mouth. Tried the 110 a few more times and nothing. So I tried some of my new Shot Callers from Siebert Outdoors and nothing. Tried the 110 a few more times. Nothing! So I tied on my 1/2oz junebug @Siebert Outdoors fogy with a sapphire blue Z Craw trailer. First cast this 2lb 2oz bass annihilated it. I liked to have never gotten it unhooked. If bass had tonsils, that's where my fogy would have been hooked. Never had a bass eat a chatterbait/fogy that deep before, Wow! Finally got it unhooked from there but the bass was still trying to swallow or something because it got caught in its gill plates. Never had this much trouble unhooking a fish. Unfortunately, as you can see in the first pic, the bass was bleeding pretty good from the gills. Sure did hate that, but it did swim off aggressively. I believe it looked worse than it actually was, hopefully anyways. I was out there til well after sunrise with not even another bite. By then it was starting to get rather hot anyways, so I came on home and took a 4 hour nap. Hope I can get to sleep at a decent time tonight. I gotta be at work at 7am. Even though I only caught 1 bass in roughly 7 hours, I didn't get skunked and it wasn't a nonscorable bass! ? 13 Quote
Fairtax4me Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Been trying all summer for a decent top water bite. The bass just don't want to cooperate this year. Past few weeks I've been throwing a frog almost every evening after work. Finally managed to get a half decent fish late last week. About 2.5 lbs, which is a pretty solid fish for this pond. I caught three other smaller bass on the frog that evening. That's probably my most consistent topwater bite all year. 12 Quote
Derek1 Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Caught this one today on a fat 8” ragetail. 3.8 pounds not gonna lie there was a little longarming going on. I think he could have waged a bit more earlier I. The season head is huge, nice catch just the same. Waged abit more I meant to say. Weighed more 13 Quote

Fairtax4me Posted September 16, 2018 Posted September 16, 2018 Had about an hour free today after getting the house clean and the car tuned up. Spotty rain showers all day here just on the outer band of the hurricane. The bass really weren't in the eating mood at all. Finally caught one about 6", then a few casts later saw some movement in the grass mat I was working across. Cast back in the same spot and saw a little wake from about 2 feet away, felt the thump and the line started pulling. My new favorite sound is the sound of braid screaming while dragging a stud bass out of a grass pile! Biggest fish I've caught in this pond! 4.5lbs and 20.5" long. Weightless senko. Owner twist lock hooks are friggin strong! 13 Quote
PAbasser927 Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Got out Saturday afternoon and caught my best bass of the year so far. This one must have been through a lot as you can see a portion of the dorsal fin is missing along with the entire upper half of the tail. Measuring in over 20 inches and only 3.55lbs, I would have loved to catch her in her prime. Still took advantage of the photo op since I had my wife out with me... we kayak fishermen don’t usually have the opportunity for good pictures lol 20 Quote

Hook2Jaw Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 So I set out Saturday morning to beat my PB crankbait fish, that fish being about 3 pounds and get some crankbait practice in general. I was making good casts and bumping bottom, occasional pausing, constant retrieve, you name it. No fish. Then this girl cruises up to me looking for food so I made a short cast with the Berkley Squarebull and reel it right by her, get a follow, stop the bait, twitch it once and she slams the front door on it. Took the bait beautifully. What do y'all reckon she weighed? Sorry about putting her on the ground, but at 6'1" and 200 I don't really do the fish justice when I pose with them. 14 Quote
CybrSlydr Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Caught my first-ever Freshwater Drum while wading in the Maumee river yesterday. 14 Quote

I would say 6+ for sure maybe close to 7. 1 Quote

Almost ready to retire. I had to replace one of the seats with a couple of 2x4's and ants have taken up permanent residence in both of the ends. She's served me well and only cost me $300 brand new. Those are the best kind! I have an even older one (I think). Mine is an alumacraft that I bought on craigslist, it has a lake toxaway 1984 sticker on it so I’m guessing it’s older than me. A few drops of terro on a regular basis will wipe out boat ants 1 Quote

Hope it keeps them away. With Raid ant killer you have to keep spraying it on, otherwise they keep coming back. Not possible when the boat is moored at a lake 30 minutes away from my home. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted September 18, 2018 Super User Posted September 18, 2018 This was a great weekend in more ways than one. Sept. 15th was my 17 year wedding anniversary. It was also my son's 15th birthday. He was born on our 2 year wedding anniversary. It was also the day I got a new PB! I woke up early that morning and my wife was out running some errands. I figured lets get some fishing in before the days festivities started. Saturday was dead calm water with a bit of fog. I started throwing the Whopper Plopper 90 in Bluegill color (ole faithful) I was using it similar to a popper, cast it out, wait for the ripples to die and pull it through the water to create a small plop then let it sit again. Second time I did this there was a surface swirl and my lure disappeared. At that point I set the hook and my Denali Zeynx crankbai rod bent over nearly in half. I thought the fish had swam under a rock. Once I saw the line move off to the left I realized this was a big fish. She taxed my Walmart exclusive Lew's Mark Rose baitcaster ($35 on clearance) to the limit. I was able to keep her from the bottom and jumping as I survived a run or three that peeled drag. I was finally able to get her to shore and lip her avoiding the Ploppers treble as she was only hooked with the front one. On the scale she weighed 4.01 pounds my new PB from the Hudson River and my new PB topwater fish. Fishing by a walking path has been helpful in the fact that I am always able to snag a passerby to take a pic. I was so grateful to the lady who did. Her dog loved me as I let it sniff the fish before I released her back into the river. 18 Quote
keagbassr Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 woke up and checked the radar saw I had about a 2 hour window between the heavy rain so I headed out. Got 2 on a 1/4 oz. Black buzzbait with this one weighing in at 3-9. 12 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted September 18, 2018 Super User Posted September 18, 2018 Released my PB Smallmouth and she went the wrong way! Right past me and right into some rocks. She swam away dazed and confused... You can hear the lady who took the pic of me holding the Bass asking me how long they can stay out of water. 7 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted September 19, 2018 Super User Posted September 19, 2018 I've seen so much talk about Ned Rig lately, so I set my goal to catch one since I have not use this rig in year. As usual my setup Daiwa Alpha SV105 pair with Majorcraft Go Emotion 652L. I did prepare Zoom Super Fluke Jr. as my backup since I don't have confidence in Ned Rig as much and I'll be fishing on top of weed. End up for hour and a half i managed to catch 4, and typical of Ned Rid two were super tiny, one decent size and one a good 2.5lbers. Not bad for a rookie like myself, lol. 11 Quote
