MikeWright Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 @NCbassraider Had a 1.16 Slab the other day...ccut him up...sseasoned him with garlic salt, onion powder, and a sprinkle of habanero powder. Wrapped it in some foil and through a slice of lime in there. Mmmmm mmmmm good!!!! Don't forget to soak the meat in milk though!! Unless you like to fry fish!! Of that's the case you'd be better off buying catfish 2$/1lb from HEB!! Quote

Water was freezing cold and they were incredibly sluggish but they know the days are getting longer! d**n the water in that lake is so crystal clear, I wish my lake was half that. 2 hours ago, NCbassraider said: That's what I hear but I don't eat fresh water fish. Just don't like it, seafood only for me. I have a buddy that comes out to my place and takes the crappy and big blue gill home to eat. He loves them and I need the panfish thinned out so it's a win-win. Fillet them put in the freezer and Fedex this way lol. Quote

There was really only about 4' of visibility, there is a lot of limestone around here so water gets that greenish stain to it, not like anything I have fished before. Quote
Airman4754 Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 I caught a bass with no color. Just silver. Oh, I caught a crappie too, been awhile. 3 Quote

Logan S Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Fun day on Lake Anna today...Shame that first one was so skinny, it was looooong. Couple good fish and filled the day with 14 to 16 inchers, awesome for February. I also caught several sight fishing in less than 2 feet of water, which was fun and a little unexpected given the 49 degree water temps. Crankbait, Swing-head, and shakeyhead accounted for all fish. 5 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted February 20, 2017 Super User Posted February 20, 2017 First trip out for the year was yesterday. We had ice on the water earlier in the week, and the water was 41* yesterday after a few warm days. Only caught one fish, but it was a good one. 7 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 20, 2017 Super User Posted February 20, 2017 Healthy fish! Quote
mllrtm79 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 a friend got a "new" boat, so we went out for a few hours yesterday. I only hooked into one, but it was nice to be out on the water again, and the weather was beautiful. this one is from Saturday, I got in a little bank fishing at a local farm pond between chores. 5 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted February 20, 2017 Super User Posted February 20, 2017 Nice fish and photos fishballer06 and mllrtm79! Wish I could be out on the water, but it's currently raining here in "sunny" Northern California. Some lakes are closed to boat traffic due to high water and now flash flood advisories are being broadcast on the tv. Be safe and continued good fishing, JB Quote
lonnie g Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 seen that bad weather out there, be safe my friend. 1 Quote
boostr Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 My first of the year The one time I didn't have my fishing license 4 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted February 21, 2017 Super User Posted February 21, 2017 Hey boostr, congratulations on your first fish of the year and a belated Happy Birthday! Sorry to see you got cited. California recently tied fishing licenses electronically to our driver licenses and I was wondering if that was the case in New Jersey. And I had to crack up at the eyes box, "2", not brn, blu, hzl, etc. Hope you're able to work this out and have better luck fishing the rest of the year, JB 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 We fished Smith yesterday and it was really slow. I tried the Damiki rig and it worked. Dangling a little fish in front of a bigger fish works. Incredible... 2 Quote

The next day they busted 5 more people. Seems to be a hot spot. To tell you the truth, I see plenty of non licensed anglers or what I think are non licensed anglers. Even folks keeping their catch even when the sign say C&R only. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 22, 2017 Global Moderator Posted February 22, 2017 Had a first for me this morning. Caught 2 on topwater in February in Kansas not at a power plant lake. There was 28 others to go with them too. 10 Quote
budgetbassin Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Caught several small ones today including two beautifully colored ones on the super fluke. I caught 13 on the fluke and 1 on the jig in a little over an hour. 4 Quote
Airman4754 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I just got the 7'6" ML/XF Legend Xtreme drop shotter in and wanted to try it out. We hit a local pond and I had five fish on, but they all came off. I was thinking is was the rod being softer than my UMBX's and it wasn't getting the hook in (a buddy landed a 7lb toad with the same rod in my boat last year), I was thinking it was the mono leader because I forgot my fluoro in my boat and I NEVER use mono. I almost, almost, almost blamed my equipment. Then I broke my weight off and I realized I didn't run my tag end back through the hook and it was dancing with the hook sideways and every time I really got into the fish the worm popped out without any hook catching. This whole time my six year old put five fish on the bank on a ned rig. He skunked me and I am totally fine with that! He even caught this deformed looking thing: 8 Quote
Airman4754 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I don't tolerate skunk, so I used my lunch break accordingly. I caught the first one on the new Legend Xtreme. If you're a drop shot disciple like I am it's definitely a rod to consider. I fished the rest of the pond and nothing, threw on a Ned and hit it again and landed three more. These are the best looking fish I have seen out of this little quarry pond. Oh that Ned! 4 Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted February 25, 2017 Super User Posted February 25, 2017 My biology lecture today got cancelled so I took it as a message from the universe telling me to fish. I headed to the magic lake with my friend to kayak fish for the afternoon. It was slow when we got there, but eventually I stumbled upon a decent jerkbait bite, and once I figured out the cadence they wanted it was GAME ON! I landed 29 bass, most on the jerkbait, a couple on a popper, and one on a jig. I anchored my kayak in one area and landed 15 bass on the jerkbait without moving! Most of the fish had the front hook in their mouth, they were big fans of the fancy bait from Japan 9 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Enjoyed the 74 degree Ohio weather yesterday, caught a few bass, but this bluegill almost ripped the rod outta my hands! 12 Quote
