Super User Felix77 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Just curious. When you have a hook (regular, treble or otherwise) that is too dull and you need to get rid of it how do you go about doing it? Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I put then in a pile and when the pile is big enough I put them in a bottle with a lid and toss them in the trash... Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 i usually put them in a box or wrap them in something so nobody gets stuck. You would think they would have some sort of hook recycling program like they do for line Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I cut them to pieces with pliers. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I collect them in an old plastic lure box, once the box is full I tape it up really well and throw it away. If I just have one or two hooks I will use snips and cut the points off so they can't poke anyone. Quote
5fishlimit Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I have an empty Gatorade bottle, and put all the old hooks in there. The wide mouth of their bottle makes it easier to drop even a 5/0 hook in there. I will also bunch up line I've removed and put it in the bottle, too. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I don't throw away hooks, I sharpen them. When I do throw one out that has broken I snip the points off. Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I cut them to pieces with pliers. Same. Quote
DropTheBass Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I wrap them in duct tape to prevent punctures from an exposed barb. Quote
tholmes Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I throw them in an old coffee can. When the can gets full, I duct tape the lid on and throw them in the trash. Tom Quote
Nice_Bass Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I can honestly say I don't really lose treble hooks from being dull I lose the lures first. I leave the hooks buried in whatever cover or structure I was snagged on and could not knock free with a lure retriever... Quote
