Super User buzzed bait Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Last night I went to return a Pro Qualifier I bought recently, but couldn't get dialed in right for me.... Had every intention of picking up a replacement reel, but couldn't find anything suitable in the limited lefty's they had. I browsed the rod section and soon after walked out with a 6'10"MHF Daiwa Tatula Casting Rod. I'm looking to pair this with a nicer reel, maybe a 7.1:1 Lew's BB1 or Tourney Pro. I like to have a rod/reel setup specific for jigs around the 1/4-1/2 range and then a separate set up for plastics/worms generally t rigged. What application would you use the new rod for jigs or plastics? I know I could use this for both, but just curious your opinions on which one you would prefer. Either way, I'm just looking forward to some time on the water with this new rod! Thanks! Quote

dam0007 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 that size and power IMO would be ideal for bladed lures, spinner baits, buzz baits, chatter baits. Paired witha 7:1 you cant go wrong. Quote

Mr Swim Jig Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I use that rod for Topwater and I use the TAT721MHRB or TAT721HFB for jigs and plastics. Quote
doyle8218 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 What's your primary use for it? It's a great all purpose rod. I do prefer a moderate fast for treble hook baits but can fish pretty much anything. 1 Quote
dam0007 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'll keep that in mind, though that would only lead to more "musical chairs" with my lineup.... LOL With those baits(spinners buzz chatter) you'll 9/10 times get a reaction strike. So the shorter rod works on the hookset no prob. Also helps, in my case, making roll casts without smacking anything on the boat. lol When I'm throwing worms, jigs, t-rigs etc shallow I'm 90% of the time pitching so a longer rod, again in my case a 7'3" helps. and also when I crank down and set the hook home I'm moving way more line with the longer rod. dam0007 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Btw Fluoro for worms jigs t-rigs and mono for the spinners buzz etc. Btw2 The Tatula reel is pretty d**n impressive nothing wrong with a matching combo. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I would think that rod would be a great t rig rod. I would pair it with a Tatula reel also. Quote

One of my Tatulas is on a rod that I throw weightless Flukes, Senkos and light t-rigs. It handles those baits really well. Quote

Diawa has great aftermarket support. While it does not exist now, there will be shallow "JDM" type spools made available for the Tatula. These spools are very light weight and this reduces the "start up time" of the spool making them great when casting very light baits. You can't go wrong using a TWS daiwa product for tossing light baits 1 Quote

dam0007 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Nice! the Chronarch 201e6 is what I've been using for 2 years for flukes and jerk baits. Just never handled lighter stuff well on that rod. Water under the bridge now lol. Quote

You can turn that Chronarch from a dog to a super star at tossing light baits with a finesse spool and some good spool bearings. Quote

I think it's just not good on that rod. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted June 11, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 11, 2014 no worries, just glad you guys helped seal the deal..... i went home last night, put my existing tatula reel on the tatula rod and it was apparent that i needed another one (i use right handed reels for moving baits and left handed for pitching/flipping, weird i know) so i ordered 2 new lefty's last night.... now i'm stoked to know you guys are throwing some lighter baits with ease. the reels are so buttery smooth on cast and retrieve it's insane.
