Djman72 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Hello! I'm sure this topic has been posted before, but oh well. I recently went out to a little lake I haven't fished in years a few days back and absolutely killed the bass. Pulled out 2 5+ fish (which are toads where I'm from). Caught them on spook's, zoom brush hogs, and rattletraps. I head out to the same spot yesterday, and I can't get them to bite on any of the above mentioned lures. All of the conditions seemed to be the same, and I must had tied on 15 different lures before I figured out what they wanted. Weightless Zoom Trick worm reeled in slowly with a few soft twitches. Point of the thread is, what is your "go to" bait that seems to get strikes that might be a little out of the norm. A little trick you picked up that you bust out when the fish are extra picky. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 For the conditions you're described, a Drop-shot might be something I'd try. And a 4" Curly Tail Berkley Power worm in Green Pumpkin, either nose hooked or Texas rigged on that Drop-shot has been money for a few seasons now; Especially early season (post spawn) while the bait is still small. Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 7" Power worm- purple on long leader carolina rig Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Drop shot or a Yum Dinger 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 My go to bait when the fishing is slow is the KVD 1.5 and if I can't get a bite with that I'll go to a Texas rigged trick worm. Quote
David D. Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 When the fish aren't biting anything else, I can most always get something to go for a drop shot. Quote
5fishlimit Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Try the Zoom finesse worm, too! It's a smaller version of the trick worm. The black color finesse worm has saved my rear end more times than I care to admit! Quote
doyle8218 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I can't really say I have any "go to bait". But I have caught more fish on a beaver style soft plastic than any other lure. Quote
Djman72 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 I left my drop shot set up at home thinking I didn't need it. I'll be sure to bring it out in case they are real picky that day. Thanks for the input! Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 5/16 oz black n blue jig with chunk trailer. Add a shot of JJ's.. Thats my go to when bass are picky.. Or not picky. If your not a fan of jigs, you always got the trick worm, finesse worm, and senko. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 11, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 11, 2014 shakyhead with a trick worm or wacky rig. Quote
sparky241 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Dynamite!! Makem pay for not being hungry.. Lol just kidding, I'm doing good with black swim baits lately Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I'd go with a finesse jig or shaky head with a menace. Quote
Lip 'em! Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 ^^^LOL No doubt about it though, shakey head with a rage craw. Quote
greentrout Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 It's tried and true and nothing new. I go to the Berkley Red Shad Power Worm and dead worm it. Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Wacky rig or shaky head. I am learning how to fish jigs, which I think will become my go to bait very soon. Quote
Scorchx1245 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I'm learning shaky heads and hoping it works! Quote
bradc36 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 As of late I've been able to get great bites on slow days witha texas rigged Gambler Lures Why Not in shadow blue, not moving it very far but bouncing it hard just outside of heavy cover. Quote
