I'd take the Ci4+ since it is lighter, looks better, and I would think cast light lures a bit better but I haven't tested casting between the two. The Curado I is a beast though. After fishing it for two days I feel like I will keep these curado i's for a long time. The aluminum body feels really rigid and it is very smooth. You can't go wrong with either but if you factor in $180 vs $270, if money is tight go with the Curado. I'm sure you'll be happy either way. It's a good time to be a Shimano buyer these days.

Both are equally smooth and refined. I however don't think the ci4 chronarch is worth the additional $100

I don't either but remember the reason how Shimano could get the Curado i under $200 is to produce it in Malaysia. If it was produced in Japan labor cost would be more. I'm not one to knock on non made in Japan reels but Shimano had to get this Curado right after the G debacle. I honestly think it should have been Chronarch Ci4+ at $250 and a Japan made Curado with aluminum drag star, titanium guides, priced at $200. I could live with that.

The curado I dragstar is aluminum, or some sort of metal.

I have both and the Curado is my favorite. I have two ci4 Chronarch's. One has seen the water one time, and the other has never been out of the box. Don't get me wrong, the ci4 is a great reel, but I have been super impressed by these Curados. And the price difference, well, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks.

Hootie and 00 Mod, why do you prefer the curados over the chronarchs? Especially if you have both (therefore price difference no longer an issue), why do you prefer the curados so much that the chronarchs are still in boxes?

I was minutes from pulling the trigger on a chronarch until I saw this.

Thanks guys.

For me, The curado palms much better and therefor feels better to me.  The main reason I suggest the I before the ci4+ is, for $100 less, you can get the curado I, send it to DVT for a supertune and be $60+ cheaper on what feels like a much better reel in my hands.  Both of my Curado I's also have hawgtech handles now.  I just think for under $200, I haven't had a reel in my hand that feels much better.  don't get me wrong, the ci4+ is a nice reel, and I don;t want to talk you out of it.  I completely understand the, "That is the reel I want, and if I don't get it, the I will regret it" syndrome.  Seems like I buy all of the new Shimano reels( low pro) when they come out, and the ci4 has gotten the least use of the newest ones.

To me, the Curado seems more solid, like it could survive more abuse, not that I abuse my reels, I don't. It buttery smooth, whisper quiet. How's that for a description...lol. It balances well with my GLX's. I also have a core 100Mg7 which is awesome, yet I still use the Curado's the most. I guess if I could have a do-over, I would pass on the ci4's and gotten all Curados. Then there is still the matter of nearly $100 per reel. Since money is not the entire issue, it's probably a lot psychological on my part.

I agree that I would have skipped the ci4 and gotten another curado I.  Seriously, A curado I, supertuned with a hawgtech is very similar to my higher end, more expensive reels, but costs way less.

Curado I -$180

Supertune and carbontex drags -$ 40

Hawgtech 102mm Swept- $70 ( less without swept)

Super sweet setup that I like better than ci4+.  I have 2 now.
