DBL000006 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I'm purchasing some Swim Jigs today. I may need some help on some Trailers. Here's what i'm getting.. Smoke Shad Green pumpkin Bluegill Blue craw my trailers are, Zoom Super flukes. I got those in Green Pumpkin & Watermelon. I have a few bags of White. Any other colors i should get? i think those are some pretty good colors. I'd like to hear what you all have to say Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 I like the flukes for chatterbaits and scrounger heads, for swim jigs I like a paddle tail trailer, it gives it a little extra action since the head doesn't move but flukes do work as well. The best bet is matching the trailer close to the swim jig or completely opposite, and being that bluegill is completely different from one manufacturer to the next it would be hard to recommend any color since some brands use chartreuse in their bluegill patterns while others use orange. Tell us the brand and you'll get some good suggestions. Quote
gnuisance Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I like the zoom fat albert grubs in chartreuse or green pumpkin as a trailer on a swim jig. Put some glue at the top and rig it so the tail faces down, you get the best action that way. Personally I don't think a fluke makes a great swim jig trailer. Quote

How about this, Netbait thumper Worm? it has a paddle tail. Quote
gnuisance Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 How about this, Netbait thumper Worm? it has a paddle tail. Those could work. Just make sure they are wide enough to be threaded onto the hook without being too torn up. That's why I prefer the grubs, because they are nice and fat Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 My swim jig trailers are: Rage Tail Menace, Shellcracker and Grub. I also like the GYCB Swimming Senko (back half) Quote
ZB85 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 zoom fat albert grub in cotton candy is a great trailer for the Strike King blue gill colored swim jigs Quote
DBL000006 Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 zoom fat albert grub in cotton candy is a great trailer for the Strike King blue gill colored swim jigs I'm getting these for the Green Pumpkin Blue Craw and Blue gill Swim Jigs Trigger X Aggression Flappin Grub For my smoke shad Swim Jig.. I'm getting a Zoom fat albert grug in salt and pepper color. What do you all think? Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use rage tail menace, grub, cut-r worm, baby thumper worm, craw, lobster, or baby craw. Rage tails are great for swimjigs! Quote
Frenchman83 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 5" grub or paddle tale. Specifically a Kalispell grub and Berkley Grass Pig. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 After I toss a RI Dipper, and it gets hammered so much, I cut off the head and use it for Swimjigs. Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Some single tail grubs in various sizes: 3", 4" 5" etc Some paddle tail swim baits, like Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper Some Yamamoto swim senior these are just a few of my favorites.... Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I would add something clear ( I don't know if Flukes come in a clear glitter or not) to give the bait the appearence of something smaller, but still giving you the larger/bulkier profile and then something dark for either contrast on the lighter colored jigs, or more visibility in stained water or on overcast days. Super User iceintheveins Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Missile baits twintail turbo, GY Double Tail, Zoom Swimmin' Chunk, Mr. Twister Split Double Tail. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I fish a swimjig a lot, and have many, many different trailers available to use, and they all produce at times. The one consistent trailer that I find myself going to time and time again is a Kalins single tailed grub rigged nice and straight with the tail down, maybe it's a confidence thing for me, but I like to start with this trailer and make adjustment from there. Zach P Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Can't go wrong with: -GYCB Swim Senkos (after you take about an inch or so off the front) -Rage Tail: Menaces, and Rage Craws -Gambler TZ's and Little EZ's -Zoom: Fat Albert Twin Tails, Fat Albert Grubs -Z-man Turbo Craws These are just a few of the ones I use, but there are endless combinations with swim jigs. As long as the plastic has some action to it and you are matching the forage size and color you shouldn't have any issue putting fish in the boat. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I'll throw a few different trailers on a swim jig, but my favorite would have to be a Big Bite Baits Cane Thumper. It gives it awesome action, and they hold up for multiple fish catches. Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Rage twin tail menace... DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY Quote
skeletor6 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'd avoid a fluke as a swimjig trailer. Keitech Swing impact and SK Menace placed vertically are my top 2. Quote
DBL000006 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Rage twin tail menace... DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY I'm getting these, trigger x aggression flappin grub. It's just the same thing almost. I love Strike King products. their plastics cost a lot. Plus i only had so much to spend. Quote
