Super User Choporoz Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 Never been to Academy, but after all the mentions on here, I've been browsing their site. Just looking for general opinions on the H2O Xpress lures and terminal tackle. Stuff looks decent enough from pics and reviews. For example, swim baits, top water lures, hooks, jigheads.... Impressions? Thanks. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 There isn´t much science involved in something like a jighead, I have a couple of those Lucky Craft lookalike cranks and so far I have no complaints, the hooks are good, the baits run true, the finish has been durable and I´ve caught some fish on them. Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 I love H20 express lures, great for the price. The H20 express CRS squarebill used to be my favorite crank until I started using the KVD1.5 but I still like the CRS and throw it a lot. Quote
pbizzle Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 They just redid their crankbaits, and they seem to be even better. I was worried at first, but they seem like they're even better quality now than before. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Lures are pretty good, but fragile... They break really easy. Stay away from their hooks (terminal tackle) not that good of quality. Tungsten is fine, a little cheaper than other places. I really like the rods though. never used any of their line so no opinion there. Quote

I've never bought their terminal tackle but if your counting the trebles they put on their baits I'll disagree because the trebles that come with their cranks and such are of pretty good quality... Super User Choporoz Posted June 9, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 9, 2014 As to hooks, I was looking at the 25 count packs for a couple/few bucks that appear to be the same hooks that they charge a buck for as singles. Worm, EWG, etc. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress-round-bend-offset-single-worm-hooks-25-pack/pid-395351?N=4294966419+10001&Ntt=h2o+hooks&Ntk=Allhttp://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress-super-lock-single-worm-hooks-25-pack/pid-412251?N=4294966419+10001&Ntt=h2o+hooks&Ntk=All Quote
David D. Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I buy their 25 packs of hooks and have not had any problems yet. Sharp, durable, and they hold fish well. I couldn't ask for much else out of them. I also use their crankbaits (lipped and lipless), jerk baits, and topwater frogs successfully. Heck, I even have one of their rods that has really surprised me with its quality. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 I can really only speak to their crankbaits, I've been using them for years. They are well made, have durable paint jobs with great patterns and decent components. You won't find a better $4 hard bait anywhere. I've heard mixed reviews on some of their other stuff but I've never personally used their jigs, spinnerbaits, hooks, rods or reels. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Throw their spinnerbaits, the hold up well, less vibration than say a Booyah or war eagle but I caught a number of quality fish on it. Just got hooks and haven't used them yet. My son got a hard swim baits and the quality seems decent finish hasn't cracked or peeled but the action isn't the top shelf. Guess it is what it is. Edit: Just stuck a fish this morning with their 5/0 ewg, 13" worm pretty far out, worked good Quote
gallowaypt Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 The hooks are pretty decent. I've had a few rolled points but not too many. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 10, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 10, 2014 Their hard baits are great, and I've used and own about all of them. Never had one break or any issues with durability in any of them, even the paint jobs hold up well. I own several of their rods and have been completely satisfied with all of them. Their worm hooks have been very good to me. Occasionally roll a point but for $5 for a 20pk I just throw that one away and get a new one. I've rolled points on Gammies plenty of times too but those are nearly $1 a hook now for the superline hooks I like, that hurts a lot more. Even have one of their Mettle baitcasting reels (on an Ethos rod) that I got on sale for $30, really wish I would have bought a few of them. That little reel just takes a beating and keeps coming back for more with no signs of slowing down after a year of intense use (about as much as I'd expect to get out of a cheap baitcaster). I've been using it as a jerkbait/spook reel and anymore it has all but replaced my 50E/Avid combo that I'd normally use for those baits. Their rain gear is really nice too and way cheaper than other big name rain suits. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 I've thrown their hooks for 1 1/2 years now with not a single problem. I've cast, flipped, pitched, & punched with em Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted June 10, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 10, 2014 Thanks, all! They now have my money. Quote
Creekcrappie Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 They are great, but don't use their mono. The mono is bad, but everything else is great! I still prefer the kvd 1.5 better than the crs though. Quote
blongfishing Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Academy was my go to bait place. I soon got a cableas. After using their products for long time I can say they are pretty darn good all around. I bought almost every product they have. I even have a few of their rod and reel combos. I love their products. Quote

I haven't used any of their other stuff, but if their cranks are any indication I wouldn't bat an eye about picking some up. Quote
