Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 I finally broke and I'm gonna try leaders more, I use leaders in a gin clear lake I fish but only when I'm not getting strikes and I usually just use the cheapest line I can find for a leader. What line do you guys prefer for your flourocarbon leaders? Do you just get a spool of something like invisX Or get the more expensive small spools that are designed to be used for leaders? Or maybe you don't even use flouro and you use mono, if so why mono and what brands? Quote
0119 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use line specifically made to be used as leader by TripleFish or Berkely. They come in a leader wheel. I prefer mono but have played around with the flouro too. #1 tip, find a knot you like, can tie easily, fast and in the field even in the dark. Many knots will point the cut tag end of your leader towards the back and catch too easily in the tip and guides. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 I use Seaguar Redlabel for my fluoro leaders. It's pretty cheap, and haven't had my line break yet. Quote
ABW Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use Seaguar Redlabel for my fluoro leaders. It's pretty cheap, and haven't had my line break yet. I do this aswell. No problems for me. I use a modified albright (alberto). 8 wraps up, 8 wraps down. Quote
DTack Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use Sunline Sniper Fluorocarbon... I just use what is left over after I spool up a full reel. There's always some left on the spool that I get use out of. 1 Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use Seaguar Abrazx. A 200-yard spool lasts me all season. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 9, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 9, 2014 I'm about to head to the store and get some line, I guess I'll end up getting some kind of segaur line because I've heard so much good about em' Quote
EvanT123 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use mono leaders generall sufix. One thing to remember if your going to tie the modified Albright/ alberto is you have to have the line come out the same way it went in when finishing the knot. Quote

Thanks for the tip but Im already familiar with the Alberto Quote
masterbass Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use long leaders so I don't have to retie after breakoffs. At least 6 or 7 feet. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 9, 2014 Super User Posted June 9, 2014 When I use leaders I use Yozuri. I use my wingspan for the length of the leader. Which is about 6ft. I tie the alberto knot and I am good to go for while. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 9, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 9, 2014 They just had a big sale on fishing lines and were sold out if seaguar red label in 15lbs so I ended up getting sunlime super flourocarbon in 14lb test, ive heard it was alright to so I'll try it. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 10, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 10, 2014 First impressions on the 14lb sunline super fluorocarbon are okay, for a leader line its everything I need, its sensitive and strong but it has a good bit of memory, after catching 3 couple # bass it would bend a lot on a slack line. But I do like it, I will also pick up a spool of seguar red label and try it after I have a few trips with this sunline to see if I like it better. Thanks for the pointers guys Quote
