sk8ter107 Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Been using a lot of crankbaits and topwater lately and want to start using more soft plastics which I don't own much of. Going to go to Dicks sporting goods and a few other places today to see what they have. Anybody have any suggestions? I am a pond fisher and it's usually murky water. Quote
Super User Teal Posted June 7, 2014 Super User Posted June 7, 2014 Senko type worms,GYCB is best, but there's a lot of good copys... I like the yum dingers Craw type bait, rage craw is best, netbait and berkly make decent ones too. Straight and ribbon tail worms. Zoom makes good ones. Zoom super fluke. That's a good start. Quote
5fishlimit Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I think they have a sale on many soft plastics, buy 3 get 1 free. Senkos, flukes, anything by Zoom, etc. Start with a worm and craw, and expand from there. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 7, 2014 Super User Posted June 7, 2014 YCB Senkos and Hula Grubs, Zoom Baby Brush Hogs, Rage Tail Craws and baby Craws, Culprit Fat Max and Incredi-craws are some good choices. 1 Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Welcome to a whole new world of bass fishing! I suggest you get plastics that mimic the forage of your lakes or ponds. "Match the Hatch!" With that said, a senko style worm seems to always catch fish. Since you will be fishing murky water I would suggest going with darker colors. The red shad color kills it in stained to muddy water. GYCB makes a red shad color and so does Yum(F2 Dinger). I prefer the Yums because of price, GYCB are expensive! Quote
Jaderose Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I also fish a lot of ponds that get a lot of vegetation in and on them. I just picked up some Culprit Fat Max and while I haven't used them yet, they are one one of those baits you see and just KNOW that they are gonna catch fish. Check them out. I got some Pumpkin Seed because that was what my local Cabela's had but I've read the Red Shad are terrific. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 8, 2014 Super User Posted June 8, 2014 Rage Tail Recon Worm Rage Tail Bug Bass Assassin's New Tapout Worm That's what's tied on the end of my rods right now! 1 Quote
sk8ter107 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Hope something works! Quote
STPC Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The Tapout worm looks to be identical to the Zoom Trick worm...but I know that looks can be deceiving. Me thinks I'll have to get a pack or 5 of them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2014 Havoc Pit Boss in junebug or black and blue 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 8, 2014 Super User Posted June 8, 2014 Zoom trick worms in Junebug and Green Pumpkin. Add to a 1/16 jig head and start flipping and pitching all over the pond in all places, along the bank and out towards the middle. Remove extra slack out of the line. Bounce, drag, swim or just let it sit there and then come back to you. Keep finger on line to feel the strikes. Watch for your line to move. Set hook hard over your head. Have fun and post some pics. Have fun. 1 Quote
sk8ter107 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Will definitely post pics. Hitting the store again today and then going to the ponds. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 8, 2014 Super User Posted June 8, 2014 The Tapout worm looks to be identical to the Zoom Trick worm...but I know that looks can be deceiving. Me thinks I'll have to get a pack or 5 of them. Looks are deceiving! The Tapout is almost twice the thickness of the Trickworm allowing longer cast without any weight added. They are enchanced with liquid salt & infused with BANG scent formula. 1 Quote
GoRavens Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I second the havoc pit boss. It's a meaty bait so use a big hook. Trigged with 4 or 5/0. Quote
Creekcrappie Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Go 2 Baits. http://www.setyourhookbaits.com/ Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 8, 2014 Super User Posted June 8, 2014 You can catch fish anytime, anywhere, with a havoc pit boss, and a yum dinger. If your new to plastics start with those in a color that looks good to you. 1 Quote
bootytrain Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Go online and get some Keitech Swing Impact Fats. Quote
BuckyKat Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I'll throw Manns jelly worm out here only because they caught my eye the other day and the feel is crazy (the 12in. is a beast), They don't seem to get mentioned much anymore but have been around for a long while and at one time were supposed to be the bomb. Maybe some of the more experienced here will chime in and vouch for them. Quote
OroBass Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Swing impact fat! These are awesome and catch fish. Great soft plastic swim bait. I work Em on a ewg Texas rigged with light weight or on a jig head. Quote
OroBass Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 If the swing impact fats are too pricey I also recommend the regular swing impact. I got the 4 inch ones for like 5 bucks for 8 and they work great too. Quote
masterbass Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 If I was going to get just one bait for ponds, it would be senkos. Quote
BuckyKat Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Looks are deceiving! The Tapout is almost twice the thickness of the Trickworm allowing longer cast without any weight added. They are enchanced with liquid salt & infused with BANG scent formula. Catt, I am going to go out on a limb and think that "I know" what you mean by infused. Would you clarify the enhanced part, are they packaged (soaking) in a saline type solution? Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted June 10, 2014 Super User Posted June 10, 2014 My new favorite lures carried by DSG is the Rage Cut-R worm. It is a "swimming worm" but it's heavy enough to treat as a Senko. When the tail get's bit off I save it to treat as a senko when I want to slow down. Can't forget my Fat Baby Finesse worms on a shakey head or Mojo setup. Quote
