Mikell Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I just bought one in 6.4:1 ratio. I know in the end its use preference, but I wanna ask what are YOU guys usin it for? is it versatile enough for all techniques? better for one than the other? flippin/pitchin heavy weights? bombing cranks and jerkbaits? or even versatile enough for finesse fishing? Light to even weightless worms? Froggin? The possiblities are endless, so Im looking forward to hearing some personal experience from you guys! Quote
Missourifishin Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I got the Tournament Speed Spool (not the pro) a few months back, in 6.4:1. I'd say they're very versatile reels, and can be used for anything. There might be some techniques where people prefer faster or slower. But 6.4:1 is a good all around ratio. I put mine on my crankbait rod. I don't do a lot of deep cranking, being a bank fisherman, so I don't need a slower gear ratio. I really love the reel. Although I do kind of wish I had spent a few more bucks to get the Tournament Pro. Did you have a specific technique in mind? Or just looking for something versatile? Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Just don't put heavy fluoro or ceramic bearings in it and you're good to go. 1 Quote
robster80 Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 i have that reel i use mine for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits right now. Quote
sparky241 Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Just don't put heavy fluoro or ceramic bearings in it and you're good to go.why no ceramic bearings? Quote
Capt.Bob Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 The TP is a great real for all round use, it will work for lighter lures and still do a good job with heavier lures, although the larger frame Lew's reels do abetter job with heavier lures they are not very good with very light lures in finesse applications. You made a good choice for an all round reel. I would rigg it with 30lbs. Sufix for all round use, and would never go lighter than 20lbs. test. Sufix is my preference so whatever braid you choose the 30 lbs test would be my choice. Now go get those pig's! Quote
Mikell Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 Thanks guys i apppreciate it! I can wait to rig it up! Ive been doin alot more froggin lately so it maybe become my frog reel unless i jus think i need a faster ratio after fishin it. We will definetly find out! Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 why no ceramic bearings? it is very VERY finicky with heavy fluoro and ceramic bearings. Very finicky. 1 Quote
