BassAngler911 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Does anybody have some useful tips for pond fishing? Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 6, 2014 Super User Posted June 6, 2014 Good gear is just as important in bank fishing a pond as it is when you're boat fishing. If you are scuffling around the edge of a pond it isn't a matter of if you are going to run into snakes, it is when. Protective footwear is important. Hip boots work great for foot protection and they will also get you off the bank a little bit, making it easier to fish parallel to the bank. I generally think that spinning gear is preferable to bait casting gear for most bank fishing applications. Bank fishing is all about compromise. You need to carry enough gear so that you are reasonably prepared for the daily conditions. Carry too much gear and mobility suffers and you don't cover the water like you should. Everything you tote down to the water you've got to tote back, plus the stringer of fish. In the summer the I used to fish out of a belly boat quite a bit, I had some encounters with snakes and turtles that were interesting, to say the least. As a general rule, they won't bother you if you don't mess with them, but that isn't true 100% of the time. Quote

speed craw Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Walk SOFTLY ..... go to your spot when done fan casting turn around walk back away from the pond a good 30 ft away then walk around then walk back into the next spot . I have seen when you walk the bank , they feel the vibration and as always if you can see them they can see you and they will spook , good luck after that . Quote
fishva Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Walk towards your dominant cast side. For example, I am right handed and cast to the left with much more strength and accuracy than I cast to the right. So I walk ponds counter clockwise, allowing me to cast to spots I haven't walked by yet (meaning I probably haven't spooked off the fish in the area I'm casting to). If you did it the other way and still casted in your dominant direction, you'd be casting to where you've already been, and potentially already spooked the fish in that spot. Quote
