Chris Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Do y'all paint your worm lead or buy painted lead? Do you think it makes a difference? Quote
Guest whittler Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 When using jigs, a plain unpainted head and a 3"-5" Kalin's or Fat Albert grub is what I use most. I find no difference fishing painted or unpainted jigs, the flashie paint just looks a lot better to the fishermem. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 When I fish with soft plastics like Worms, Kreatures, etc. I use Tungsten weights. The ones that I use are unpainted. JT Bagwell Quote
Fatdaddy150 Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I prefer brass weights. But I do paint these. I use a product called dippin dye. It comes in several colors. And works great!! Quote
AUTgrPilot Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I do use painted lead, but I buy it that way. I only buy black as well. It's probably just a mind game but the black just looks more natural on the dark colored plastics I use. Not a huge deal to me. Quote
Pond-Pro Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I know that some Profesionals paint there slip sinkers and hooks to match the color of the bait they are using. I guess it makes it appear more natural. Quote
Chris Posted December 2, 2004 Author Posted December 2, 2004 When i use darker soft plastics i use painted lead no real reason just do. When i use lighter soft plastics i use my old dull lead not the new ones. I think the new lead is to shiny. No reason just personal choice. It just something i do. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 2, 2004 Super User Posted December 2, 2004 I am 100% sure, rocks don't care. When I buy lead I always buy it painted because its prettier and matches my purse....I can't recall EVER fishing with a guide who had painted lead, they either make their own and don't paint them or buy in bulk which must not come painted either. I usually catch more fish (but not bigger) when I'm with a guide which would lead one to believe unpainted is better. However, my theory is that fish are easy to catch, finding them is the hard part...So, that's where the guide comes in, especially on a new lake. I don't think the paint makes any difference. Quote
L.D. Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 I personally don't use painted jigs, seem to catch the same amount of fish. However I keep some painted jigs on board for my clients that just need them for confidence. Quote
reellittlephish Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Not painted lead, but powdercoated brass for brass and glass. If I figure I am on a tough bite I will choose a color weight and bead to match the worm. Lead is unpainted for me. Quote
thewayweball02 Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 All the weights and jig heads I have are either tungsten, black, ir not painted. IMO it dosen't matter that much. I could be wrong........... Quote
