What Do You Use The Majority Of The Time When You're Frogging: Hollow Body Or Solid Body Frog? What Are Some Of Your Favorites?

So, I've found that I use the a solid body (Ragetrail Toad) about 97% of the time because I haven't had great success with hollow body frogs, although I have caught some nice fish on hollow bodies, just not with the consistency of solid body frogs. So, for solid body frogs I've used Ragetail Toads, Zoom Horny Toads, and Stanley Ribbit Frogs, for hollow body frogs I've used, Spro's, Spro's Popper, and Scumfrog Bigfoot (awesome frog, had a big hit in the thick pads, frog missed it, made a total of like 24 more consecutive casts, frog made 4 more misses, and took it on the last one, she weighed a little over 4lbs.). I also have two Live Target frogs that I've never even taken out of the box.

So, what type of frog do you use the majority of the time and what are some of your favorite frogs?

Ah.... you can tell summer time is approaching and all the topics are on frogs. Fortunately for me I LOVE frogs so I will join in this thread. I throw hollowbody frogs the majority of the time. Mostly Koppers or Booyah's depending on my location. If I notice that the fish prefer the frog moving a little faster, I will switch to a soft body frog. I will throw Hornytoads or any other buzzing type frog i may have at hand.

Last year I was all about the Stanley Top Toads this year so far I have been having a lot of luck, in heavy heavy vegetation, with Booyah Poppin Pad Crashers. So I am a hollow body frog guy.

I am one of the few that ABSOLUTLY love the lunk3rhunt LUNKER frogs (LH frogs). People have had complaints about taking on water/ legs tearing but I haven't had those problems (the water thing doesn't affect it as much as people

complain about when it happens u squeeze it out and cast). But on the same frog I have caught one fish over 8, one over 7, four over 6, and numerous 4-5lbers, including 2 with no confirmed weight but over 6 (durability issue isn't a factor on this one anyway). I have more luck with these frogs at spots that don't have heavy vegetation or pads.

Just my two cents.

Soon all other lures will be put in storage and all my different frogs will take over my tackle bag. Love this time of year here in FL!! I've got some good footage so far on my gopro can't wait to grab some more when the bite really turns on like it did last year

I like the hollow body live target most of the time...when i dont throw a live target i am throwing a stanley ribbit frog

70% hollow

30% solid

Thats just me though

Snag Proof Bobbys Perfect frog and Ish's Phat frog are my two favorites.  Booyah Pad crasher is a good cheap frog as well.

I guess because the horny toad started the solid body craze I call all solid bodies Toads - hollow bodies are frogs - they're different lures with their own seperate techniques - the only thing they have in common is the tackle used and the cover they are commonly fished over.

Hollow 10%

Solid 90%

I like the bog baits of various styles and they have floating versions and slow sink ones but I am partial to their floating versions as it lets me stop them in pockets and openings in the lilly pads or grass.

When I first started fishing I was all about horny toads but recently a buddy has shown me the value of the hollow body. I fish pad crashers almost exclusively when I do throw frogs

Maybe not Froggin in the true sense but #1 for me is the Rage Shad. For Hollow Bodies I like the Bobby's Perfect and Spro Poppin Frog.

I'm new to froggin but so far I have been about 95% hollow body. I've tried the Strike King Sexy Frog, Booyah Pad Crasher, Live Target, and I have a River2Sea Spittin Wa and a Lunker Hunter frog on the way .

What's your success rate per trip?

What's your success rate per trip?

I've been out throwing exclusively frogs probably 4 or 5 times now. On average I will catch between 0 and 5 fish per trip. I have been skunked but also had some trips where I caught multiple good fish. I'm not setting the world on fire but I've had enough success to keep me interested.

This evening I had 4 or 5 fish hit the bait but only landed one. Pulled the hook out of their mouth mostly but also lost one or two after a good hook set and then they shake their head

Hollow Body Frogs! Booyah Pad Crasher with the hooks bent out or I like to replace the hooks with a size bigger. Kopper's frogs are nice, but I don't find it really necessary to spend that much on details that appeal more to the fisherman than the fish.

I fish Live Target exclusively. I know they're expensive but I very seldom lose one. The one down side to the live target is they are a bit tougher to walk than other brands.

When it's time to throw a solid body lure, I throw a rage shad. I just got into them and they are fantastic! I have a 100% hook up ratio so far (6-7 fish).

One thing I've done to modify my frogs is go to the hardware store and buy a small suction cup hook deal. Take the hook off and drill a hole in the middle. Not thread a bobber stop on your line, then the suction cup and then put your frog on. Snug the stop up against the suction cup (cup open away from frog) and you have a popping frog!

Stanley Ribbit for fast moving, Zman for slow because it floats.

I would say I throw a hollow body frog around 90-95% of the time, and the toad style around 5-10% of the time.  I may try the toad a bit more this year.
For hollow body my favorites are Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect and for solid I like the Horny Toad from Zoom.  Both aren't wildly painted no added eyes or anything of that sort but they do definitely work and they work well.  I have a few frog fish in my gallery if you'd like to see.

I would have to say 95% hollow body.  I know they look cheap and usually come in variety packs, but my best luck has been with Scum Frogs. I have definitely had the most hook ups on them.

I use hollow belly almost exclusively. About 95% of my froggin is done with a Booyah Pad Crasher or Poppin' Pad Crasher.

I look at hollow and solid frogs as completely different bait applications. I use hollow bodies most though. I prefer Spro Bronzeye Poppers. When I want a buzzbait style presentation along banks or through weeds I use Rage Toads. Ones a reaction bite, the others a feeding bite. imo of course.

How do you know when they are feeding vs. reaction biting?
