has anyone fished with some of the different Lews reels and decided on which is the best? i own the tourn pro and super duty. ive considered getting a regular speed spool due to the rebate. what r the advantages of say the tournament speed spool or the tournament mg vs the speed spool

I have a couple speed spools and a couple laser mg reels. I have not developed an opinion, except to say that that was the best choice I made to swap to Lew's. I love them.

There are several Lews models. They are great reels. I settled on 2 for the time being and I am enjoying both the TTpro and Tournament MG. Each have serving roles in my reel line up.

Imo, for the price you can get the tp, I would save my money and get another one of those.

I've owned

Speed spool

Tournament mg

Bb1

Tournament

Tournament pro

Super duty

Team lews

Team lews pro...

Tournament pro would be my go to if I had to chose one model. Though the super duty would be my choice for anything heavy duty

Lew's quickly became my favorite. I have had a Laser, SS, SS Tourney, SS Pro Tourney, cant go wrong with any model i say, just decide how much you want to spend, but the Tourney Pro is CRAAAAZY light.

Even better looks like the Lews Speed Spool that started at 99 is now currently 89 + a $20 rebate, killer deal and killer reel.

I have owned every one but the new BB1 inshore. In my opinion the Team Gold is there best reel, and contrary to those who haven't owned them and think all reals made in the same plant are the same,,,,,,,,,ya right!!! The Lews reels all offer something different for every tactic you can imagine. The Super Duty and BB1 are best at throwing heavier lures and with heavier line than the smaller frame reels. The MG is great for those who don't like centrifugal braking and want Mag braking and will be throwing 3/8 and heavier lures. The Tournament  with dual braking is great with lighter and heavier lures. The TP offers most of the benefits of the Team Gold but uses a graphite side plate and does not have the titanium finish. The Team Pro uses a lighter gear alloy and shorter carbon handle, and with its lighter reel weight is slightly better for a lightweight finesse outfit. But I like the Gold as it is a premium all round performer, lures under 1/4 oz, over 1 oz, they all cast great and only gives up a little to the BB1 with the heavier lures, but does it much smoother with a much longer lasting durable finish. Yes every one of their reels does something different better, but all do most everything very well. The Laser and SS1H with the lack of Aluminum frame and drag system perform well but will probably not take the wear and tear the other reels will. I can assure you the Lew's reels will outperform most any other reel that shares their appearance and some of their parts!!

My favorite lews reel that I own is the BB1. I have speed spools, tourney mgs, tourneys and tourney pros.

Been wanting to try out the bb1 pro

I have a TP, a BB1, and two MG's.  All very nice reels.  For the money, I like the MG's a LOT and will be buying more in the future.  Personally, I think the mid-range price point Lews reels are more alike than different.  Figure how much you want to spend and go with it.  Tom

I own and fish with

 Lew's Tournament

 Lew's BB1

 Lew's BB1 Pro

 Lew's Super Duty

 Lew's Team Gold

 Team Lew's

 Lew's Team Pro

Out of all of those I really like the Lew's BB1 Pro it is just a great Reel but I really do not think Lew's makes a bad reel. I'm not sure how it happened but I have just never got around to buying a Lew's Tournament Pro. It is one reel I was going to get but when I started to buy one I skipped out and bought two Daiwa Tatula Type-R Instead. I need to pick up a Lew's TP soon though. I wish I had more Lew's BB1 Pro, those reels are fantastic.

I have 4...

  • Tournament Speed Spool (Spinners & Topwater) very smooth reel for a decent price... really like the braking system.
  • SuperDuty (Pitching & Frogs) not into umbrella rigs yet, but great for pitching big jigs.
  • Tournament Pro (Soft Plastics) If I had to stick w/ one Lew's, it would be the TP.
  • BB1 Pro (Cranking) Does exactly what everyone says... great reel.

I love my two MSB reels.  IMO either would be a great choice for an "all around" reel.

I have 2 that I just bought and I have to say I love them both. I bought a SPeed Sppol and tourney pro. If you can swing it the tourney pro is great but I still really like the speed spool for the money especially since there is now a $20 rebate.

I'm going from the STX to the Tourney pro's. I have 5 STX's and now have 4 of the tourney pro's.  I have a standard Speed Spool (5.4:1) on my Deep Diving with no complaints at all!  The Lew's just seem to be a much better reel than the  A.G. STX, in my opinion.  I'm hooked on MSB systems.

How the type r to bb1 pro?

It would be very tough to pick which reel I like more out of the Daiwa Tatula Type-R and the Lew's BB1 Pro. They are both so good, The BB1 Pro Will palm easier and the weight of the BB1 Pro is lighter. They really both throw about the same also. I truly can not give you a straight answer as to why but I really like the Tatula reels, they just feel very well built to me and smooth. I would really hate to know that I could only choose one reel out of the both of those because those two are my favorite that I own. I think a lot more people would like the way the BB1 Pro palms because the Tatula sticks out on the front of the reel because of the T-Wing System. I think you could not go wrong with either reel though.

The Tournament Pro is lighter, lots of carbon fiber. They fish better than any reel I have ever owned. I have 6 tournament pros, 1 tournament, 1 bb1, 1 super duty, and I just recently purchased a Team Lews Gold Spin. That thing is amazing. All Lews products are top notch.

I've got the Tournament, and I love it. Can anyone tell me how much of a step up the Tournament Pro is over the Tournament?

pro has one more bearing and is 1.2 oz lighter...

The only carbon the TP has the Tournament doesn't is the Handle, the TP uses a stronger and lighter Duraluminum Drive gear and brass pinion to maintain the smoothness even longer than brass, the Tournament uses an all brass drive and pinion, they both use the same Carbon drag and same shallow drilled spool, and the TP uses one more ball bearing. Yes the TP is a more refined reel, and you can expect better performance than you get from the excellent Tournament, but it will cost you about 35 bucks more street price.

I have a laser mg, tournament mg, and a bb1 pro and I absolutely love the bb1 pro. I'm amazed by it everytime I switch to it from my other rods.

I have a few TP's a BB1, and an MG and I use the TP's for about anything because they are just a pure workhorse, the bb1 for cranks and the MG for frogging and all of them have quite impressed me and when it comes to reels it takes A LOT to truely impress me.
