I am going to Lake Erie for first time in a few weeks. So have no clue on where to go and should I fish for large or smallmouths.

I have a 20' Ranger so can run to islands if water is okay but heard horror stories about how fast the lake gets bad and prefer not to drown.

Been looking at maps, lots of water to fish. So just looking for some advice on where to go and what to fish.

What about Sandusky Bay, back of the bay? Portage River? Boat docks? Stuff like that.

Any help and guidance will really be appreciated.

Thanks

I always find the most fish down toward Ruggels Beach that would be heading toward Vermilion ...I would fish tubes and blade baits.

I have gotten a spinner bait deal also around the islands but not enough weight to win a tournament.

Glacier ridges are key and a wind sock or 2 a must also...

Keep in mind I am not a local but an old tournament fisherman...Jay

I catch a decent amoun of large mouth across from the islands around marble head. I would like be able to tell you exact spots but its so vast I wouldn't know where to begin. There is just places along the Ohio side with pads and vegetation that I look for and boat docks or flats.

Thanks for the info. Would be launching out on Marblehead and if weather is good would definitely try the islands. But otherwise sort of lost.

East Harbor and West Harbor are decent for largemouth if you can't go on the main lake. East Harbor is pretty shallow so you have to watch out around banks so you don't bottom out your trolling motor.
