robster80 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 cabelas has these on sale. nice looking rod. saw they had a medium heavy 7ft and got excited. then saw it has a medium fast tip. really hoped or fast or xtra fast. but anyway has anyone tried one of these? Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted June 5, 2014 Super User Posted June 5, 2014 I had one of the previous model, but haven't tried one of the new ones. They're not really on "sale" though. Cabela's always has them listed as being marked down, because they're an exclusive rod made for Cabela's. They're decent beater rods. They're not really light, sensitive, or any of that; they're durable and can catch fish though. Quote
robster80 Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 gotcha i guess if it had a fast action id give one a shot Quote
dam0007 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Own the 7ft MH. Actually bought it at Cabelas on sale for $59 around Christmas. First rod Ive bought with the ACS reel seat and really dont like it (the reel seat). Anyhow. I love the rods blank itself. The tip is soft but transfers fast into backbone for a solid hook set. It loads great when casting, you can really get some good distance with it. I use it exclusively for throwing Keitechs on 1/2oz football jig heads. I have it paired with a souped up Citica 201G6 and 10# InvizX. It balances decently, for what i use it for with the tip pointing down 90% of the time, the balance is fine. I've tried using it for smaller jigs and spinner baits and went back to my 13's for those apps. I'm also not a big fan of foregrips on casting rods, the little dinky piece of cork above the lock down thread looks stupid IMO. As far as sensitivity goes it does its job I can feel the bottom and tell the difference between wood, rock, weed etc. But if you palm the reel as I do and wish to have your index finger on the blank, that stupid piece of cork is where my finger tip should be. All in all its worth the money I paid and serves its purpose for me. Alot of experimenting went into deciding to make it my always tied on paddle tail rod. lol Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 5, 2014 Super User Posted June 5, 2014 The blank feel similar to an Abu Garcia Vendetta, but the rod has Fuji alconite guides, for $60 it is a deal. I actually think they used the Vendetta blank since Fenwick is under the pure fishing banner. I like the ACS reel seat and if you don't mind that you can pick up a decent rod for a good price, I never saw a $60 dollar rod with alconite guides. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted June 6, 2014 Super User Posted June 6, 2014 I have the 7' M/F casting. I actually really like it for what it is. Its really comfortable for me, (Which Is probably why I like it alot) I love the composite cork, the fuji acs, and dinky foregrip, The handle was essentially made for my preferences. And component wise, Fuji alconites and ACS, for $60 I think I paid, its a steal in my eyes. Blank wise, I like it, its not one of my powells, but I didnt purchase it expecting it to be, but if i'm in the market for another rod with a budget of $100, this would be my first choice all day.
