WVbassin87 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 This is just an observation, but i love the fact that the majority of fisherman you meet are really nice people. y'all are one great example. another is how easy it is to strike up a conversation with someone while looking at fishing gear. it always ends up as an exchange of information. either they recommend a lure or spot, or i do. just one of the many things i love about our sport. 2 Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 We just had a house built and moved in May 1. As with any new home, there were a few things that needed to be repaired, touched up, etc. The granite in the kitchen needed to be replaced due to a crack. The plumber came in to remove the sink for the granite countertop and he walked through my garage and saw all my fishing pictures, gear, boat, etc. We talked for over an hour lol. Quote
macmichael Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Yes they are. I just learned to carry some pictures of some of my catches on my phone. Big ice breaker and a great topic to chat about. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 5, 2014 Super User Posted June 5, 2014 On a honda motorcycle....... Yup the minute the repairman at the house see my tackle room the conversation starts. Quote
fishva Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Most the time. Other times, they threaten to stab you with a filet knife. We get all sorts. That's usually good. Sometimes, not so much. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 5, 2014 A vast majority of my good friendships started the instant we found out both of us fished. Quote
Nelson Wormefeller Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I agree most are nice people, but I have also met my share of litterbugs, purposeful breakers of fishing laws, crooks who will steal gear, pompous boaters who think they own the lake, shore fisherman who will not move from the boat launch, and loud obnoxious drunks. CDMeyer Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 This is so true, most fisherman are so nice.....you can start a conversation with any of them and it will go on and on Pople will even talk to someone like me who is only 17, they offer tips and try and help me all they can.....it is so inspiring Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 5, 2014 Super User Posted June 5, 2014 Negative messages are infectious, they tend to gain momentum faster than positive messages. I've had the same experience as you, the majority of fishermen I've meet are really nice people. The truth be known, I've been outclassed by gentleman who caused me to take a closer look at myself. Big Fish Rice Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I've only had a couple of unfortunate instances with other anglers on the water - in many years of fishing. Couldn't agree more with your post. Most of us would give up fishing time to help with equipment problems, or to get a buddy who broke down, or even help a kid who has yet to catch a fish on a random day.Great people, great sport. Super User Master Bait'r Posted June 6, 2014 Super User Posted June 6, 2014 Our shop's town water/plumbing inspector is a notorious jerk and overachiever. People tremble in his signature's shadow and he has a terrible reputation for being just the most overbearing, obnoxious paper pushers this side of the Mississippi- or so I learned after I had about an awesome 2 hour conversation about fishing the river along the shop and told somebody about it. I thought the guy was awesome, and they couldn't believe it- they said he was just about the biggest jerk he had ever met and that he is known far and wide as being an insufferable ******- he went on to say that he knows at least a dozen plumbers who refuse to do work in that town because of him. I was just like "d**n, maybe you should try talking to him about fishing next time" hahaha Quote
BHenderson Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I agree. I've had long conversations for a couple people in the fishing aisle in Walmart. Quote
