I trying to see if you'll can help me with the selection of my new rod and reel.

I told my wife I wanted it for Fathers Day but im not sure what set up.

Right now i have an 6'6 medium ugly stick with an open face reel (not sure what brand) that im very comfotable with. 90% of the time im fishing a T-rig and small square bills. Im looking to start throwing jigs, larger crank baits and experimenting with different styles of fishing.

What would be ya'lls recommendation for this next set up. $150 is my ceiling and my reel has to be a baitcaster. She will most likely shop at Academy, Dicks, or Bass pro shop. If I need to increase my ceiling please let me know.

Thanks

Fishin with your kid or your dad is the best gift imo

If you must get a rod or reel in the 150 range id recommend a veritas and bps PQ (A hair over your budget) but they will serve you well for years to come

I believe you can get the Bass Pro Qualifier bait casting reel for $89.97 and a Bass Pro Carbonlite rod for $89.97 also. So just a little outside your budget but this would be a great little combo.

A bass pro Pro Qualifier is a good reel. You can then add an H2O Xpress MH/F rod from academy and be right at your budget.

I believe they combo this for $160. At least they did last week when I got mine.

And I would choose the above choice.  I'd at least get a BPS PQ Level reel the bare minimum.

I would go with the Lew's SS1h right now it's $89.00 with a $20.00 mail in rebate and there is no reel close for the money. For a rod well I would really go for a MF 7' or 6'6" if you like shorter rods in a St Croix Premier. The problem is that would run you about $110.00 to $115.00 if shop around, but well worth the money. This would give you an excellent settup. But for top notch I think your budget only allows for a reel as I think the best start at $150.00. But if I was going to stick close to your budget I would get these and spen the 115 on the Premier as I feel the rod is the most important in a setup.
