Pond Fishing

I have a Pond, about 3 blocks from my house. Some days it can be very tough to catch Bass. The pond has a lot of Lilly pads. Also, a ton of grass in the Pond. With all the grass on the surface. It's hard sometimes to throw Spinnerbaits, Crankbaits and Poppers. I see a ton of Sun fish and bluegills. What things can i do different, to be successful here?

Go with frogs and the 6" weedless swimbaits I just work through the grass which have worked great for me! Watch out when your weedless goes through a thick cluster of grass at times and you pull harder to free it, because as it comes free you can get hammered big time!! Basically anything you can rig weedless will work, I just prefer swimbaits!!

Depending on how thick the stuff is, even a weedless swimbait would draw frustration.

I like to throw weightless plastics in stuff like that. Magnum flukes work great because you can work them just under the water and right over the weeds because the sink so slow!

Live target frog, Booya pad crasher, Spro frog, etc. And you could also flip a jig around the grass. Hope that helps!

Frogs no doubt. I'd punch the mats with a 3/4 ounce bullet weight / soft plastic and then hit the open areas with a Warpath Buzzbait. If your pond is pressured at all, I can almost guarantee there aren't other anglers pounding a weight through the mats!

I personally would go with a Texas rig using a black and white, blue and white, or green and white worm.

 

Put braid on your reel and use a 2' to 4' fluro leader.

 

Cast sort of downward, hard, so that the lure fires throught the weeds.  Give it a second then play with presentations.

 

I do specify braid so that it will cut the weeds and reduce snagging.

Sounds similar to one of the ponds I fish as well. Weightless flukes, chigger craws or t-rigged worms. I typically toss them on top the junk and twitch them back, letting them fall into any pockets of water along the way.

Awesome ideas guys! The Grass isn't to thick for Braided line. I 'd use the braided line in the Lilly Pads though. I love these type of waters. I love flippin or pitchin in this stuff. I mainly use Worms, craws and Creature type baits. Sometimes or days go by. Where it's hard to get a bite on the water. I hear a ton of splashing near the banks of the pond. I flip near the bank. They won't touch it. People keep telling me.. Oh there's no Bass in this pond! It's funny i laugh at them all the time. I guess they see all the Grass on top. They think, no bass at all. That's the best type of fishing. Again great ideas!!
