5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Hear a lot about this topic and how helpful it's' use is. Does finesse mean using a weightless worm slowly? Or something else? And why and when is it effective? Quote
frantzracing0 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 downsized, light line presentation. Thats what finesse means to me Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 Finesse is kinda different in everyone's eyes, a lot of people may say one thing is finesse and some others may not think so. Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Finesse techniques are downsized, light line techniques. Often fished on spinning gear. Quote
einscodek Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 finesse is fishing subtly.. please dont eat me Mr bass but here I am wink wink tease tease shakin my booties .. subtle requires a bit of slowing down whereas power is fishing obnoxiously here I am eat me or I am leaving Quote
Super User geo g Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 For me it means down size plastics, use weightless or light weight, Fluorocarbon line, and fish slow. Let the fish have a good look at the bait, decide to investigate, and a slight movement and sit still. Just like a dying organism in an aquarium. They turn on their side make a couple of quick movements and then just lay there. It makes for an easy meal. Works real well when fish don't want to chase a bait. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 Power = big rods, heavy line and big baits, often running deep or being yanked across weeds. Finesse = lighter rods, lighter line, usually at or near the surface and usually unweighted plastics or drop shotting etc. Quote

5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Makes sense. Especially the overall idea of slower fishing and technique. Will use this when a case of lock jaw comes into play. Quote

I don't think it requires light line or "sissy sticks", but it DOES require you to slow down to entice bites. In my opinion power fishing is like putting out a whole fried chicken. You may not get as many bites, but you know if that one big feller is around he'll take a bite. Finesse fishing is like putting out a bowl of M&M's. You know someone's going to eat one, even though it'll usually be a skinny little pre-teen girl. But every now and then ol' bubba or Aunt June is going to want a little snack in between meals. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 4, 2014 Super User Posted June 4, 2014 If you really want the answer to what finesse bass fishing is read Don Iovino's book "Finesse Bass Fishing and the Sonar Connection". There is more to finesse bass fishing than light line and small lures. Precision, close attention to details, exact presentation, boat control are key elements to finesse bass fishing. Don wrote the book and is considered the father of finesse bass fishing. Don states that most anglers think finesse is sissy baits and under estimate how effective small finesse baits are in catching all sizes of bass, his PB is 18.5 lbs caught shaking a 4 1/2" worm on 8 lb Trilene XL line and won several boats and lots of tournaments and ended up in the fishing hall of fame fishing sissy baits. Tom PS, KVD with crankbaits/spinnerbaits vs Aaron with drop shot defines power vs finesse. 1 Quote
