After seeing all of the cool modifications of jon boats on this site, and on youtube, I decided to modify a jon boat of my own. I started by messaging 00 Mod, and he answered all of the questions I had, and sent me some pics of some of his own jon boat modifications. So far, I have added carpeted seats, a rear casting deck, a built in cooler, rod holders, and bungee cord mounts, so i can strap everything down. A couple of weeks ago I found a Lowrance LMS 330c fishfinder and I picked it up for 10 bucks. I made a mounts for it, hooked it up on the boat, and it works great! The Jon boat, is powered by a Minn Kota C2 30 and it gets along just find on small ponds and lakes. The battery, and other miscellaneous items can be stored under the rear casting deck, which is easily removed. I have attached some pics.

I would be super leery standing up in a 10' jon honestly.

+1.

I had a 10' jon at one time. Standing on the bottom of the boat was not the most stable position.

I am 14 years old and only weigh 120. I have stood up on it for hours on end without a problem. If I were larger, It would definitely be more unstable.

Hopefully you will make it to 15 years old.

Ditto on what Mark said - nice job on that boat.  Ever think of putting in a couple pedestal seats (front and rear)?

I have thought about that, but we transport it on top of the car, on the roof racks, so it would not fit.

You could put the bases on and then just throw the seat and post in the car before you put it up there.

Nice job on it btw!

Congrats the boat looks great. I have been considering doing it to a 16 foot aluminum boat my grandfather gave me several years ago. I love to see when people take time to improve through ingenuity and a few bucks, rather than going out and buying something new. Nothing like taking pride in your new rig that you built, now go catch a PB.

Great job!

One suggestion, I'd fit a piece of plywood 6 to 8 inches wide, or maybe narrower, to span the two gaps where you secure your rods.  The rods are very vulnerable, the tips particularly where they have no support beneath.  One slip, or something dropped could easily snap them.  Cover the plywood with carpet.  It could be something that just rests across the seats, and the bungee cord that holds the rods down will keep them in place.  Make them as narrow as possible, keeping in mind that you might want to carry more than a couple of rods with you.

Cut the plywood to fit against the side of the boat.
