Lucky Craft won't break the bank when you consider the baits durability and year in year out productivity.  Generally, three colors of LC Pointer 100 and you're gold on most water you're going to see.  For me, they're an excellent value.

In terms of less costly baits Xcalibur, Bomber, Husky Jerk, Xrap, Rogues, Wild Shiners; there's a multitude and you're going to find some that say one better than any other, while others have another favourite.

If you fish rocky areas at all, I'd stay away from the Xcalibre jerk baits.  My experience with them has been they have very fragile lips on them, especially considering they aren't among the cheaper jerk baits out there.  If money is the primary consideration, Bomber suspending long A's have performed very well for me.  Otherwise, shop the flea market and you can pick up LC Pointers for very reasonable cost and they are an excellent hard jerk bait as Lee said.

nah, money is not the primary consideration. I have had few LC crankbaits and topwater sammy, but somehow I dont catch many fish on them compare to Norman, or SK.

I will second the LC Pointer.  I fished the SP97 out of the back of my buddies boat on several occasions.  I would catch about three to his one.

Awesome baits.

Hooligan, what three colors do you get on the pointers?

LC's are incredible.

American Shad

Ghost Minnow

Chart Shad

Ghost Bluegill

Ayu

In that order for me.

My top three are Aurora Black, Nishiki (clown), Ghost minnow.  as a fourth MS American Shad or Chartreuse shad.

Pointers are worth the money. They last and they catch fish when other baits won't sometimes. I love the American shad color and I'm really starting to like Crack color also. Nishiki can be a killer at times also. I've been doing really well with the Excalibur Erratic shad this spring and the old Rogue is still a killer sometimes too.

I like the Mcstick 110 in the Chartruese clear color or the Blue Bandit.Great sticky Gamy hooks, stays down there and hunts. The harder the wind is blowing the harder you jerk.Oh and it won't tangle like some jerk baits because of the metal ball that goes to the back of the bait as you throw it. Best midrange cost jerk bait IMHO

I am placing an order soon, do you guys prefer pointer 78 or 100?

It depends on the situation, but I like the 78 overall.

I use the 78 and 100 for bass. Generally speaking I'll start with the 100 and scale down.

If I had to pick just one it would most likely be a 100 in Ghost Minnow or American Shad.

I fish the 100 probably 98% of the time, if I'm after a smaller profile bait I change to a different manufacturer, or I fish a 97MR for touchy fish, and have had great success with that bait when they don't want a 100.

I prefer the 78 size. Also check out the Ima Flit, I've have better luck with it than the pointers.

I have caught a lot of fish on the Pointers in the past, but didn't catch much size with them. I switched over to River2Sea's Suspen' 88 last year (Laser Stock Trout color) and caught larger fish, including a personal best 4-pound brown trout.

I have since added the Trophy Minnow and Jerk Shad to my arsenal and I continue to fish them because I have great results. Once you gain confidence in a bait, it's hard to switch companies. A lot of people feel the same about LC, Magabass, Jackall and XCalibur.

I avoid $20 jerkbaits because we have toothy creatures like Muskie. I'm much more comfortable spending around $10 for River2Sea products that have performed at or above my LCs. I prefer Daiichi hooks and with their increasing color patterns, these jerkbaits are here to stay.

I like the Pointer 100 size better, and I'll almost always try a 100 before a 78. The 100 is easier to cast and I catch larger fish with them compared to the 78.

The Rapala XRap is also an excellent jerkbait and costs quite a bit less than the Pointer.

The Xrap excels for me when the temps hit about 60. Then it becomes a super bait for me.

I am not a big LC fan but Pointers are just way better than any other jerk bait for me and well worth the price.

i also like the LC pointer, among others, tho i prefer the slender pointer 112. then the 78.

another i really like that hasnt been mentioned is the sebile koolie minnow, i throw the 90 medium lip floater alot for walleye, but the bass hit them just as well. at around $12-13 they are a pretty solid deal (and come with stock owner st-36's, a nice bonus)
