macmichael Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I am thinking of getting a couple of these reels. Anyone have any experience with and are they any good? Thanks Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 If you're talking about their spinning reels, I have three different sizes. They're smooth as silk & cast great. More than worth their $49 price tag. 1 Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I owned the spinning version for a few years up until recently. Great reel for the price. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 The spinning reels is possibly the biggest bang for the buck at that price point. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 I love mine. Same as everyone else said, good reel. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 Got three pfluegers, president, president XT and Templar. Great reels you won't be disappointed Quote
ZB85 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I just purchased a president last Friday and fished it pretty hard over the weekend. Super smooth reel, I really don't think you will be disappointed if you buy one. Quote
Cgrinder Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 It's hard to say anything bad about the President reels. You should check out a Daiwa Legalis as well if you're going to buy the reels from Bass Pro or somewhere. It's another $60 spinning reel that is very good. I would avoid the Shimano Sedona at retail price but if you want to spend $80, the Sahara is an excellent choice. Quote
gramps50 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I have several Presidents and can't say anything bad about them except they come with only one spool. Another spinning reel I like at the same price point is Lews. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 The president is just a good performing reel, simply as that. A few bucks more may buy a more refined drag, which IMO isn't that important in bass fishing, and a reel that weighs less, some people gravitate to lightness. Quote
masterbass Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 The president is my favorite spinning reel for the money. I don't feel the need to spend more money. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 I have a couple that I have been using for years with minimal maintenance. I had them both cleaned and serviced over the winter and other than cosmetic issues it would be hard to tell them from new. Great reels for the money IMO. EDIT: These are spinning reels. I have had no experience with their baitcast reels. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 Very nice reels, I use a 6935 it's a little much.. (line capacity) very nice for not to much money. I prefer shimano.. Shimano just cast so much better, and line management like Snook said is outstanding ! Get one before they change a bunch and start breaking all the time. Quote
7mm-08 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Love them. I liked the President so much, I thought I'd move up to a Supreme XT. I prefer the President and use it more than any other reel I own. Quote
Djman72 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Pflueger spinning reels under $150, you can't beat em. I own the President, Supreme, and Supreme XT. They are all amazing for me and the techniques I use, and I plan on getting a Patriarch here soon enough. I've caught salmon, pike, walleye, and ofc LMB off a President and the drag is smooth and never catches for me. Great Price, Great reel. 1 Quote

macmichael Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 hey mac, Pflueger is all i used out of your boat at the Roadtrip... 2 presidents and 2 supreme's.. best spinning reel for the money.. imo Yes I know. They seemed to cast a mile and very smoothly as well. That's why I have been checking them out. I gonna get 2 spinning President reels. I can get for $49 each after rebate. Good deal Uh? Quote
bassin is addicting Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 great deal.... i'm sure you'll be happy with them.. Quote
MacP Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Another guy named Mac who likes Presidents!? We should be friends! I have a Trion, 2 Presidents, a President XT, Supreme and Supreme XT now. Love them. In order: Supreme, President XT, Trion are my favorites. Not really sure why, but I absolutely love my wife's wood-handled Trion. I took it apart completley and regreased/lubed. It's amazingly smooth. 1 Quote
macmichael Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Well I did it. I purchased 2 presidents 6930's. 59.99 each, $20 off and another $20 mail in rebate, plus free shipping from Dicks. 2 Quote
Josh Smith Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I have the smallest President, the 6920 (I think that's the number). It takes 100yds of 4lb mono. I really like it, with two caveats: 1. It's made in China. In my experience, made in China stuff just isn't quite as good and this reel does feel made in China. (I looked it up after feeling it so it wasn't a prejudice on my part.) 2. The bail is just slightly harder to trip on this one than on others. It's loosened up some but will never be as easy to trip. A lot of the time I flick it closed manually. This is good for finesse fishing, so it's not a huge deal. Josh Quote
