philsoreel Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 The heavier the buzzbait, the faster the retrieve it's going to take to stay on plane??? If that's so and the slowest retrieve possible is desired then why would you use a heavier model....other than for further casting distance or size? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 28, 2011 Super User Posted March 28, 2011 Hmm... Buy a MegaSrike 3/8 oz Cavitron, black on black, and see what you think. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 28, 2011 Super User Posted March 28, 2011 I've read that smaller buzzbaits outfish the larger ones at times. I've got some 1/8 oz Strike Kings and Booyahs in solid black and solid white lined up to put this theory to test. Can't wait for the warm weather to try them out. Quote

BassThumb Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 1/2 oz buzzers have a larger blade which slows it down. The larger blade displaces more water and makes more splash and noise. They're also easier to toss in windy conditions without backlashing. Half ouncers have their place, but I mostly throw 3/8 Cavitrons, like RW said. Quote

I hear ya on the Cavitron name drop, they are definitely better than any others I've tried. I've been fishing 1/8th Cavitrons exclusively. I was about to order 5 or 6 more and was wondering about going with a heavier model. Quote
philsoreel Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I'll try the 3/8 and see how I like it. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 As RW said, 3/8oz Cavitron black on black and don't forget a stinger hook! SJ Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 28, 2011 Super User Posted March 28, 2011 You can vary the speed by bending the wings on the blade in and out. If you bend in, then bring a BIC pen and bend around that... Quote

Yeah, I've been playing with that a little. I got after one the other day with the drill press to get the props rotational weight down some. A couple of extra holes helps but you can go too far. Robert William Osler Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 cavitron is a very good choice and they make some of the best buzz baits out there if you are looking for another one doctor spinnerbait 4 blade prop you retrieve this one very slowly they also make them with 2, 3 and up to 4 props on the same inline wire. so thats 4 props with 4 blades each thats total 16 blades and thats like 4 thomping at the same time kind of crazy but it works its a custom order and this is a very very very slow retrieve this is the one that looks like a spinnerbait with Lazer TroKar Hook and they make them inline up to 15 inches long. good luck with your search hope you catch a big one Cheers Quote
philsoreel Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 I went with... 2- black on black 3/8ths 2- whites 1 w/gold blade 1 w/red 3/8ths 2- ghost minnow 1/w gold 1 w/red blade 3/8ths 1- black on black 1/4th 1- black on black 1/8th Maybe now I can make it through a fishing trip without having to go home because the fish destroyed my only Cavitron. I've always done well on the Norman style triple bladed ones because of how slow you can retrieve them. I'm definitely going to try some of those cavitrons. Quote
Buzbait88 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I have a bunch of 1/4 and 3/8 ounce cavitrons in just about every color and love them all. They all have a situations where 1 produces the other, but you can't go wrong with black/black or black/ gold blade get them in both 1/4 and 3/8 ounce Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 29, 2011 Super User Posted March 29, 2011 Cavitron. Cavitron with a trailer hook. That's the answer. Quote
philsoreel Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 I can rob the Stingers off of some terrible SK spinnerbaits I have. What's the best way to keep them on? I have some fuel tubing from my nitro RC cars that I can use like SK does on their spinnerbaits or is it not needed? Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 You definitely want to use some tubing to help keep the hook on. I do not see why fuel tubing would not work as long as it is small enough inside diameter wise to fit securely on the hook. SJ Quote
kayakfisher Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Ive caught more fish on my .99 chartreuse buzzbait from wal-mart than any other buzzbait in any color. It baffles me, but it works. I refuse to spend over a few bucks on buzzbaits/spinnerbaits...especially since they tend to get annihilated by toothy critters in my area Quote
ofl0926 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 i just picked up some booyah buzzbaits. i got three of thems. two 1/4 in black and white and 3/8 chartreuse. lets see what happens Quote
lightsout Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I really dont subscribe to the slower is 100% better theory, maybe in certain situations like heavy cover and the strike window is small. I often dont want a fish getting a good look at my bait, and reacting. My favorite buzzer, (and Ive tried tons) is the secretweapon lures brand in Black, with a colorado blade in 3/8. You have to reel it a bit quicker than others, but in clear water I'm convinced it gets bit better. Quote
