David D. Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 So I managed to break the tip off of my *** Black today and am in need of a new rod for the weekend since the warranty won't be completed quite that quickly. I'm looking for a 7'-7'6" H/F or H/XF for frogging. It would be very nice if I didn't have to order online, but I'll make do with that if I have to. Looking to spend no more than $150, prefer around $125. My local Gander mountain has St. Croix Mojo Bass rods that fit the bill, but they also have some Duckett rods. I have never used a rod with micro guides, and haven't really found them aesthetically pleasing, but if y'all say that they're good then I could give them a go. Any suggestions? Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 The Mojo Bass 7' heavy frog rod is a solid choice. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 I would not suggest a micro guide rod for frog fishing. They clog fairly easily with any debris dragged in on the line. Quote
JGBassinAL Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I know a lot of people use the 7' heavy Duckett Micro Magic for froggin and love it. I used to use the 7'3" heavy White Ice and I had no problems with the micro guides. I have had two *** Omens in the past and both of them snapped at the tip, I was pretty disappointed as they are aesthetically pleasing. I do not use either of those brands anymore, but I think the Duckett would do you just fine for froggin. Never used a Mojo Bass, but if you really don't like micro guides then I wouldn't buy the Duckett from Gander Mountain. Their return policy sucks. Quote

I have returned numerous things to Gander and never had an issue. Quote

Even with receipt you can only get store credit. Dick's and most other places give you cash back. Heck, you can take a used rod back to Academy without a receipt and they will give you cash back. SenkoGuru Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I use the 7'3" Heavy Duckett White Ice for Frogging and love it, I've never had a problem with the micro guides. I also have a Powell Endurance 725 and it is also a good frog rod. I just like the White Ice more. Quote
