Super User tcbass Posted June 2, 2014 Super User Posted June 2, 2014 I have a Zara Spook and have only caught fish on the initial splash down. But when I walk it back I walk the dog. Quote

Keep the rod tip down, allow a little slack and begin your cadence. boom ....boom....boom... etc. Once you master that, then you can speed up your cadence and make your dog jog instead of walking...lol.... one of glenns video's made me fine tune that technique. 1 Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Spooks def. catch fish. Take your time, and learn how to walk it. Its really simple when you get the hang of it. Iv caught fish that had no business trying to eat the plug, all the way up to very decent fish on them. Pick up a super spook jr. After you learn on the puppy. They catch nice fish. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 2, 2014 Super User Posted June 2, 2014 For $1.50 I would have bought all they had!!! The puppy I find harder to walk, well not really harder but different because of the smaller size. If you never worked a spook then you will have an easy time learning it because it takes a lighter touch to make walk rather than my heavy handed way. You work it almost like a jerkbait, you want to make small "pops" with the rod on slack line, this will make the bait move to the side, another pop on slack line with make it move to the other side, once you get that down you can speed it up and you'll be walking the dog like a pro. 1 Quote
0119 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Easiest with spinning since its so lightweight but many casting "pro's“ will say otherwise. I also throw it with a Ambassadeur 2500c and a MM crankshaft rod. Stick to 8 or 10# mono and use a rod with a moderate tip. The sticky little hooks with work there's no need to use heavy flipping tackle with it.The puppy can be a true slayer. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 2, 2014 Super User Posted June 2, 2014 I almost forgot to tell you. Remember to add a small split ring, if it doesn't have one already. It will make your life a little easier. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 3, 2014 Super User Posted June 3, 2014 It needs lighter line IMO. Try 8 pound test. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 4, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 4, 2014 The puppies are harder to walk for sure. It can be done with casting gear but spinning gear with 6 or 8 pound test will make it much easier. Slack line at the start of each twitch will make them walk much better. Quote
