Second Guessing My New Rod Purchase...

Hey guys so a week or two weeks ago I made a post on here about wanting a wacky specific spinning rod. Everyone said to get a 6'6-7ft medium fast that is rated for 1/8oz to 1/2oz. Anyways I found a Shimano Compre Drop Shot rod that I ended up picking up. I love the way it feels, and it cast like a dream. It fits the list of things that was recommended, and is 6.8ft long. However the rod is very flexible. It does have backbone, but not much. Im worried that I should have gotten something else with the same stats but a little more backbone. Anyways does anyone have experience with this rod? What do you think about using it for wacky fishing both weightless and with a wacky jig head? Thanks guys!

For wacky rigs you want a fairly soft tip to help impart more action into the worm. It would likely handle weightless plastics just fine. I throw my weightless 3" and 4" senkos on a 6'10" medium Shimano rod.

Solid pick IMO, my drop shot, wacky rod is a noodle. ML/F

I wouldn't use a true drop shot rod for this personally. A drop shot rod is designed with a tip that is intended to move the bait and not the weight. A simple lift the rod tip and reel down type of deal. I want a rod with a little faster tip and a little more power for hook sets with weightless plastics. Nothing super fast or to powerful, but a step up from a drop shot blank. Between that and a spin jig blank seem to be about right. Medium and some medium light mag bass blanks seem to work well dependant on the manufacturer. I use an RX8+ Senko blank that rocks for weightless Senkos and Flukes.

I'm not sure what you consider backbone.  Backbone is not lifting a fish out of the water, IMO it's how well a rod handles the fish.  Modern rods of all price ranges have no problem handling good sized fish.  Just fish it and enjoy it.

Apply that idea to any carrot stick lol. I think he means that he doesnt want his medium to act like a medium light.

You'll be ok with the rod for wacky rigging but there isn't a lot more you can do, for that I would have got a medium light fast action rod because drop shot specific rods have such a limber tip that you really can only use certain hooks, basically small light wire super sharp hooks.

I can't tell you what to use for wacky rigs. But if you can return it, then do so. In my opinion, if you're not 100% comfortable with a purchase, then get rid of it if you can.
