12Lb Mono Knot Strength.

I have some 12LB Trilene mono line and the knots keep slipping out. I normally tie knots that catch good sized catfish (even though I fish for bass) and the other day I lost a buzzbait and a willow leaf spinner to two small bass. I was wondering if my knots are just becoming faulty or if mono line doesn't hold knots as well as fluoro.

Which not are you using?

It kind of sounds like you are not leaving enough of a tag end after tying your knot and the tag end is sliding back out of your knot and coming untied. I try to leave a 1/4 inch or a little more on my tag ends after tying the knot.

I believe it's called the advanced clinch or something of that nature, and I leave about 2 centimeters probably.

Mono hold knots very well. Prob something to do with your knots. Have you tried uni knot? I always use uni and never slips

I've only ever took the time to learn the one knot. Lol I've never had a problem with tying mono or fluoro, and I've never tried braid. It was just that one day my knots weren't holding well at all.

I'd be willing to bet it's the quality of the knot, any "fishing" knot should be no problem.  I use only the clinch knot with mono, my tags ends are around 1/8" maybe a tad more.  Regardless of line type or knot being used a good practice is to singe the tag end and put a bead on the end, will help the line from not pulling thru.

It's the same kind of knot I've been using for two years, I think it may be because I haven't used mono in a while. I had fluoro on my Black Max and my knots were fine, they were actually strong enough that my friend was trying to get a bait unstuck and it took him about five minutes. As soon as I went back to mono, my knots started slipping.

I've never had an improved clinch knot fail, and I use mono 90% of the time.

Make sure to re-tie your knots after a few fish... The only time my improved clinch will fail is if I go a whole day catching fish without a new knot...

Mono is far and away the easiest knotting line. Fluoro will hold an improperly tied clinch knot a little better, because the line is not nearly as slick; it kind of catches itself. They'll eventually fail if not tied properly anyway. I've been using the improved clinch with mono, fluorocarbon, and braid, for 25 years; never had a properly tied knot fail me.

I'll try that man, good advice. I've always just kept the same knot cause I change baits constantly.

My knots normally never fail, and the line that I was using that day I have spooled up many times on my Pflueger baitcaster.

It sounds to me that your mono is too old.  Mono stretches and its life is some what short compared to other lines.  I would at least take off five to 10 feet of line from the end and see if that helps.  Are you wetting the knot when you tie it?  If you really want to be a success at catching Bass the first thing to learn is knots.  If you lack interest enough that you don't know the name of your knot, then you may not be tying it correctly.  Knots are critical to success and some don't work with all lines.

guessing maybe you weren't either wetting it to cinch it tight or the line itself is bad?
