WVbassin87 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Well, I just found out that because of work and family conflicts, my next fishing trip won't be till the end of June. It's actually got me kind of depressed. How do y'all deal with long waits between trips? Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I try to make life miserable for the ones that are responsible. 2 Quote

WVbassin87 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Lol well I'm married to one reason, and she's hard enough to handle when I don't make it worse Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 Find something else fun to occupy your time. Too many fun things to do in the world. My friend and I fished today and he said "How do people even have other hobbies than fishing?" I have to agree with him, nothing compares...(at least for me) 3 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 I can empathize. After a long winter, colder and wetter than "normal", I was ready for the season to start. In a perfect world, I like to get out at least once a week. First trip of the year, unexpected boat issued. What started out as a fishing trip turned into an exercise in how to get your boat back on the trailer when the motor won't start and the tilt & trim don't work and no one else is at the ramp to help. Two and a half weeks of down time and $2100 later, I'm going fishing again. This time, 4 miles from my house, a deer decided to run into my fishing truck around dawn, on a positive note, I was only running about 35-40 mph when it ran into me. Another 2 1/2 weeks, messing with the insurance company, etc, my truck is fixed. Right now, everything is ok - knock on wood. The point is, I missed a little over a month of spring fishing. I seemed to be in a continually pissy mood, really I was lucky that I didn't get any write ups at work for "bad attitude" On further review, on my days off I drank more than normal, not a lot more, but more. In that month or so that fishing was down, I had a few other unpleasant experiences, both work and non-work related. The point of this mini-saga is that, as far as I'm concerned, fishing blues is real and something to be aware of. If you're addicted to fishing, like I am and like many of us are, periods of time with no fishing can have consequences - mental health wise and wallet wise, and probably other ways that don't come to mind right now. Something to be aware of. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 I cannot remember a more brutal winter... Followed up by a even more perplexing spring.. Seems we got all our rain in a basic 2 day event.. Just a really wierd spring period ... That has thrown me off.. I actually enjoy fishing in a haze gray day... With mist/ sprinkles... Just nothing but sun.. Wierd! Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I dont know what you mean by having to wait to go fishing???? I just load up and go to which ever lake is producing fish. If my boat is working I'm fishing, if my boat isnt working, I'm mechanicin, if I have to wait for parts I'm drivin to get em. Then I'm fishin again. I work when I have to, hunt when I can, and fish in between sleeping cessions... 1 Quote
WVbassin87 Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 I love my family, but as odd as it may sound i consider fishing an important part of my mental health. it's how i escape and de-stress. i love being out and my biggest concern being what's on the other end of my line. i have other hobbies and i do enjoy them, but nothing compares to fishing. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 Go to bass pro shops and watch the bass in the fish tank haha 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 One of the many really great things about this sport that we love so much is this ~ It's always there ~ Always. No matter how long it is between trips. So if you're not able to go for a week or a year - it will still be there waiting for you. So do what you have to do, and find comfort in knowing that your sport will be there patiently waiting - for whenever you can get back to it. A-Jay 1 Quote
paul25 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Go to bassmasters and watch elite shows or flw shows on their website Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted June 2, 2014 Super User Posted June 2, 2014 Go to bass pro shops and watch the bass in the fish tank haha That would make it so much worse! On the other hand, fishing in the bass pro shops tank could probably cure most any illness. Quote
blongfishing Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Don't go to the tackle stores. I went when I couldn't fish in the winter and spent a fortune. For some odd reason I always go to the store and buy fishing stuff when I can't fish. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted June 2, 2014 Super User Posted June 2, 2014 I always keep at least a couple rods and a sampler tackle box in the car. I also keep a change of clothes in the car most work days. I'll stop at a bank or pier on the way home from work once or twice a week if I haven't been on the lake for a bit. Helps knock back the cravings a little. Quote
WVbassin87 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 I think i may have found sonething to help: just traded in a few games and got Bass Pro Shops: The Strike. gonna try it out after work tonight Quote
einscodek Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 So much of our modern lives are so "un-natural" .. fishing just seems to restore some of that.. Get out as much as you can.. Quote
