Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 Today I probably had 4 bass hit at my crank but not even get a piece of a hook... I tried everything from slowing down, speeding up, start stop nothing seemed to work. Anybody fish with square bills and trailer hooks without messing up the action and getting hung up every cast? I figure it probably wouldn't work because I throw my squarebills into the cover and it'd probably get hung up... Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 Personally I have never seen anyone use an additional trailer hook on any crankbait Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 I personally wouldn't do it, but give it a try..squarebills are designed to bounce off structure, so the trailer hook might pose an added snag. If they're short striking the squarebill, go back at them with something different, perhaps a soft plastic similarly colored with some megastrike smeared on. Quote
doyle8218 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Try throwing another color SB. That's what helps me. It sounds like a short strike and color changes can help most of the time. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 If they're swiping at it but not getting hooked, a change of color in the same bait is sometimes all it takes. Also try speeding up your retrieve or going to a slightly smaller bait. I've never heard of anyone using a trailer hook on a crankbait. Quote
TorqueConverter Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Switch to a lighter wire hook on the back and throw it on a limp noodle of a rod. Quote
