I finally got out last Saturday for a few bluegill.  No beds yet, but ended up with a limit of 8" - 9.5" gills with a few redears thrown in.  Biggest of the bunch was just shy of 10".

One dock, in a certain cove brought me 18 keepers in 10 minutes.  Most amazing spot I've seen in years.  That cove is on a lake halfway between where I live and your favorite lake.  It should only get better the next week or so.

Took my four year old to a local marina Sunday night. We had fish as fast as we could re bait and get the worm/bobber back in the water. Probably caught around 60 in 90 minutes, almost all of which were hand sized or bigger. Really great evening.

Just glad they're up shallow again, so catching my flathead bait isn't so much work!  :respect-059:

Gills can save the day when the bass bite stops.

I have a spot by my house that produces 1 pounders every cast if you free-line a live worm. It never hits the ground. I also catch small bass sometimes doing that. A small one is about a inch bigger than my hand and I have a pretty big hand!

i havent done any bluegill fishing this year, but i know a pond that has some in it that go over a pound. i always put them back though. theyre a blast on my lightweight rod, they just zip all over the place.

Took the Grandson out yesterday evening to catch a few catfish, we only had about an hour and a half, but after 5 fish with two of  them being these blue gill one 9 1/2" and one 10", we put the night crawlers up and rigged up with redworms and slip bobbers for the gill's. That was the end of the bluegill and we started catching Perch 11 over 12" and  none under 10 1/2". Some days you just takes whats you gets!!  :Idontknow: IMG_0139-II_zpsf826ea07.jpg

Where's Fish Chris with his monster bluegill and redears??  :Idontknow:

You know when fish are hyper active when you can catch pan fish on bass size lures.

Crappie have been easy to find and catch up until a week ago. Now that the water temp is above 75, it's much more difficult.

I took about 5 cane poles and jammed them down into the bottom of the lake in about 5-8 ft of water (depending on rain amounts) it is my go to place and I catch at least 50 a day. I also tried out a submersible light one night and you should've seen them. I could've almost stepped out on the water and walked accross them they were so thick.

About 2 years ago I caught a monster Longear sunfish on a fly rod. It was over 1 foot long. I had never caught a longear before and was confused about it being an off color Bluegill.

I usually catch bigger sunfish on the fly VS anything conventional.

Last year about May I was at heritage park SPRINGFIELD MA in porter lake. The bluegills were crazy. Caught them on every cast, they fought hard for there size and were good size too. Though there not strong, fast, or smart. I've blue gills because they were the first species I caught as a little kid. Also what other fish bites a bare hook, except maybe pumpkin seeds.

I caught a 14" crappie once on a weightless texas rigged yum dinger, which by itself isn't a big deal but i caught him while i was casting over a grass mat that i was dropping the dinger into holes.  He blasted through the grass like a bass would....never saw that before and haven't seen it since.

I fish a pond that has some gigantic hybrid bluegill, these fish were both over 12". We catch them on bass lures too, they will eat a superfluke like it's nothing.

I use em for catfish bait. There's a trash filled city creek around here that I can pull 100 bluegill out of with a handful I worms.
