Line Jumping Off On Spinning Reel

Just put new line on my Revo SX spinning reel, and the line just jumps off, and is hard to manage. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Get the string to load onto the reel the exact same way it comes off the spool.  If you get it wrong it can be pretty aggravating, but it will start to cooperate after a whole bunch of casts...that is, if you have the patience to keep fighting it that long.  I know, because I figured it out the hard way when I finally upgraded from my old Zebco 33...

You may be overfilling the spool.

 

Back off the amount of line and see if that helps.

 

Also, some presentations will cause the bait to twist. This will also cause line twist.

There could be other reasons also. Too much, to heavy lb. test, type of line, etc.  It sounds to me like you applied the line to the spool correctly, or you'd have line twist problems before you ever noticed the line jumping off the reel.  Before you go removing brand new line from the reel, try soaking the spool in water for a while if it's mono.  The difference in spool sizes between the one the line came on and the one on the reel is likely different and mono has memory. Soaking the spool will allow the line to acquire the memory of the reel's spool.

Braid will save you money in the long run as you won't need to respool as often and you don't need to use all the line on a new spool when you put it on. I don't recommend using the same mono for three or four years as mono does have a shelf life that shortens with exposure to the elements.

It would never last that long on my reels anyway as I'm constantly retying and I have to respool some of my reels before the season is over.

Loading the line on the reel correctly will not affect the coiling issue, the highlighted will, as Sam mentioned don't over fill.  Coiling should not be confused with line twist, 2 different problems.  Once I'm spooled up I will always troll my line out before fishing, I also troll it out at the end of each outing so I'm good to go for the next time.  Many use a line conditioner, they work fine as does the water method.

Something else to consider is the balance of rod, reel and lures.  I'd never thought much about it and moved reels around to different rods as tips broke or reels wore out.  But a while back, I gave my wife a rig to use that had a smallish spinning reel on a heavy rod (I don't recall the specifics of each), but every five or six casts of a light lure, she'd end up with a mess.  Took us a while to figure out it was actually my fault for mixing and matching unmatchable equipment.  The stiff rod moved line faster than the lure could take it out.
